  • Nah, Vista wasn’t even nearly as bad as ME, it was just released with hardware requirements that were too high and OEM manufacturers that installed it anyway on their low-end hardware.

    And of course too strict UAC, but that could be disabled.

  • Quick question about the immutability: I understand that you do most of your work inside Toolbox, but how do you get stuff like Waybar? Is it also available as a Flatpak? And what do you do if you want to install something that isn't available as a Flatpak, but won't make sense inside a Toolbox as it's e.g. for system customization?

  • X11 does support multiple refresh rates. It's just that usually the compositor or window manager vsyncs every display, thus making everything refresh at the lowest refresh rate. Are you using KDE? If yes, place these variables in /etc/environment and reboot:

    KWIN_X11_REFRESH_RATE=144000
    KWIN_X11_NO_SYNC_TO_VBLANK=1

  • I also have one, and it's a damn shame that Apple stopped the mini series after the 13. I don't need half a tablet in my pocket, I need something that easily fits in my pocket and can take halfway decent pictures. I'm not sure that my next phone will be an iPhone because of this, and I've exclusively used iPhones since the 4S.

  • 144/60 works fine for me on X. I only had to disable Vsync for the compositor. Games now run at full 144Hz on my main monitor, and the other two are running perfectly fine at 60Hz.

    Though I'm still waiting for the day that I can finally make the jump to Wayland when nvidia support improves (or I have enough money for a new AMD GPU).

  • I already did a UEFI reset, that didn't help. As far as I can tell, it's only GUI applications, I haven't seen a segfault for something else so far. Unfortunately I don't have any other GPU right now.

    It seems that a solution was found though (at least for now, it didn't crash since a few hours) here: https://lemm.ee/comment/8161085
