Speaking of optics: Did Israel mention why he was in battle fatigues? I was given the impression that he’d be dressed as a doctor / ambulance driver / UN worker etc but he looks suspiciously like a soldier.

That’s a good point - do we “speak” sign language? I’d never given it much thought. I think it was lazy writing on my behalf; the phrase “spoken words” could probably be tweaked to make it more obviously inclusive of all the signers out there.

Yup, the only two things small talk and conversation have in common is that they take a minimum of two people and involve spoken words.

As written words they have distinct meanings I think - with the exception of a class of people (nobs) the word is always with a K for all other uses. I’m gonna start calling people “gnobs” from now on to muddy the issue.

When the Wind Blows is a perfect response to Protect and Survive… I simply never connected the dots as a kid. I don’t know about the Young Ones getting in on the act. Gonna have a look for that later. Every now and again I stop to think whether it might’ve been best if someone had pushed the button and called time on the eighties - and humanity as we know it. I can’t believe we dodged the nuclear apocalypse (so far) and still ended-up squabbling and artificially divided.

In 1984 Frankie Goes To Hollywood released their single Two Tribes. It’s about that perennial eighties trope of the imminent planet-ending nuclear apocalypse we were all hanging about for at the time. The track and remixes contain spoken samples from at least two UK government publications regarding what to do when the bombs came - it mentions id-ing corpses in a similar manner. There was a booklet sent out to every house, from the government, called “Protect and Survive” It’s hilariously optimistic about my chances of survival.

My wrong take of sh.it.just.works’s name is that it’s for people who neither care nor know how the fediverse works or what it even is - people who just want to consume and occasionally randomly interact.

On the flip side to your question - if it don’t feel right then that’s a good time to stop (or alter) what you’re doing.

… because he was stopped in the middle of the process of attempting (trying) to take a human life illegally - by his own written admission and actions that day. He was attempting to murder someone. He had picked a target, gathered intelligence, arrived with otherwise legal weaponry, written a manifesto, concealed himself and in all likelihood would have taken the shot when the opportunity presented itself. Whether he got to pull the trigger or not is immaterial - he has already begun attempting to kill someone by setting his plan in motion.

For an eclectic viewer like me I am the complete opposite of you; being tracked and remembered by YouTube would be miserable. I arrive at a fresh home page that shows only a search bar every time I go there. (There are no video thumbnails) I have to stop and think about what I want to watch. I click on a video after searching, reload the page to skip the ad, unmute and away I go. Any creator I want to remember I’ll take a screen shot and then copy and paste their channel name to notes.

I mean, yeah, trans folk being brigaded makes sense - I’m surprised and disappointed that it’s a major deciding factor on an area of the web like Lemmy which is generally (at least) a bit more accepting. If I was trans I’d probably wind my neck in if I were on 9gg, Re**it, 4chn because you’re unlikely to feel better after interacting there - which is a pity. Still think it’s a bit weird having upvotes only though; but I guess there has to be some mechanism to seperate the wheat from the chaff.
