  • That and our exceedingly obnoxious self importance as a species. We think we own the Earth, but we actually just live here, and we're gonna find out real soon how fun it is when nature decides our climate is no longer stable.

  • I mean, yes, while I want nuclear weapons to go the way of the waste bin, just as much as everyone else. You cant expect anybody to see whats happened to Ukraine and think, yeah, let's get rid of our nuclear capability. Nuclear deterance does seem to work.

  • I dont even know what SDE means, and I am an engineer who works on software. Never got a CS degree, but I took one or two programming classes in college. I definitely couldn't tell you what an IT person does. Did look into a CS masters once and decided I had no interest whatsoever in doing algorithm development research of any kind, or any research related to compilers, or any of that junk. It was too niche for me. Anyway, dunno what the point of this comment was supposed to be. I guess what im saying is, yes, I agree, the "need to go to college" thing is overrated. We need to teach kids there are a lot of paths to take, and not all of them leave you with crushing debt.

  • Well, turns out people need to feed their families, keep a roof over their heads, and games are hard. 300k isn't a lot of money to actually keep the lights on at a studio. Also keep in mind, depending on the tools you use, you could end up giving a portion of your game sales to the engine dev, then on top of that you have steam who wants a 30% cut for selling your game on their store. That's maybe 50-55% left after all that depending on other bills and sales to fund anything after profits are left over.
