  • The stories in both were somewhat disjointed and as with most sci-fi, requires some level of suspension of disbelief.

Nowadays, storytelling and plot takes a big backseat to action and explosions....😔

  • I'd like to thank all the friendly, helpful people I've met, apologise for any steamy hot takes, and of course thank the mods for keeping us under control, and Lodion for standing up a place aussies can call home.

Honestly, I'd like to see more of the same, but with a growing user base. This place, and lemmy in general, deserves more eyes. Of course, that also brings risks and costs, but for discussion based communities, you need a 'critical mass'

  • Yep, tor me it's because it requires a Pixel. And specifically poor Pixel battery life.

I value battery life, and every Pixel I check out on gsmarena has an endurance rating < 90h.

For comparison, my current phone's endurance rating is 113h, and this is why I ended up shopping by chipset. Everything not Snapdragon had poor battery life. (Disclaimer: haven't looked for a couple of years)

  • Toyota has been touting breakthrough solid state batteries for a while now.

Not so surprisingly, they are always 4-5 years away.

So, in the meantime, you should buy one of our Toyota ICE or hybrid cars! ...lol

  • Half racists that think the 'others' aren't human and should have no rights, and half those whose knee jerk reaction to anything is 'Change? NO!'

  • Can't wait for the first lawsuit for someone growing a tooth out of their dick

  • Offtopic, but what do you use for music?

  • I remember reading a while ago that with medical and technical advances over the next 50 years, they reckoned that some people born now will be able to effectively live forever, eg replacing or regenerating body parts, cure cancer etc etc

I'd need to think for a while about if you could, would you want to live forever? I vaguely remember a sci fi short story that had this question as part one of it's themes.

  • I had an old account that I hadn't used for years in the Optus one.

Of course, it turns out they gave that information away to the hackers too.

  • I have an account with these clowns. Unique password of course.

    Thanks password managers! 😘

  • From what I've seen, conversions are generally preferred on pre OBD cars, as even the accessories like lights, AC etc run through that.

It puts you back looking at vehicles from the 70s or earlier. VW beetles, combis,Porsches seem to be popular choices.

  • living in a van down by the river.

This also brings another phrase to mind. It's usually an American term, but I fear that we are inevitably heading to our own 'trailer park trash'. And by this I don't mean the trash is the people.

The 'trash' -no,tragedy- is that the housing situation is so fubar that we'll end up using caravans and temporary accommodation as stoogaps for shortages. And,.once it's established as a substitute for housing, it will never be replaced. Because it's cheaper.

  • Some years ago, I remember reading posts (can't remember where I saw them) from a guy who lived out if his car in Sydney.

He was doing it by choice to save money to get an apartment. He had a job, but didn't want to waste money on rent. He covered a lot of tips and tricks, and answered heaps of questions. Eg a little heater for cold night, membership for 24hr gym so you could shower/ exercise, best places to park etc..

What struck me the most, was I started out thinking the guy was crazy, but ended up admiring him and thinking maybe he was the only sane one. I often think about this when I see homeless stories, and wonder what I would do if I lost my home.

This is just a side story though, and this guy (and I) had many advantages that other homeless people don't.

Being homeless is no joke, and we shouldn't have a society where people don't have basic shelter.

  • This is the best summary I could come up with:

    • Wealth will continue to concentrate.
    • Young people are fucked.

As long as 45% of our federal lawmakers are investment property owners WHAT THE FUCK DO WE EXPECT WILL HAPPEN ??

  • Hahhaaahahaha.

I've used this for years to test speakers and headphones etc, and had never read any of the comments!

They're great! But you can feel the disappointment dripping off some of the comments, that made me a bit sad 😔

  • No,no,no,no! You've all got it wrong! You're all looking at it from entirely the wrong objective!

It's a GREAT policy for property investors which will boost capital growth and provide excellent short term returns!
