I can think of a lot of reasons. In a rural area, finding a suitable partner is tough. Why not let a web of adults help out.

So yes i do think it is social media. But they are more akin to the old internet, or Facebook before it got massive and bad.

For exampke? There is not a massive algorithm, especially a personalized algorithm (obviously Top and Hot are technically algorithms, but they democratically place popular posts to anyone who hasn't blocked/is following the community).

For many comparisons they are obviously social media, but for other types of comparisons I don't think it's a great match.

Hopefully new competitors on the market will all have to try their best before they start being shitty.

me and my team (we are atm 3: me and 2 school colleagues) started a pretty big project last week. I know it sounds crazy, but we are working on a successor to WoW. Please don't say we can't do it anyway, because we are very ambitious and are very experienced WoW players. I'm posting here to find more people for our team.
