  • The problem isn't the internet, the problem is Capitalism, that used internet to turn more suffering into money. The problem is, there was never that magical time when everything was great, it's a fallacious thinking. It also applies to the internet.
The only path to anything positive is progress, not trying to go back to imaginary times that never existed.

  • Installing it from scratch manually? Maybe no, not for an inexperienced user who's goal isn't to learn Linux.
But I would argue Arch itself is great for a casual user to have. All the software in one place, installed with the same command, and you only install what you want, so no fiddling with bullshit you didn't ask for.

  • There was a period before soylent people discovered fiber, when this was true, but now I think all the various manufacturers of this type of stuff adding it, and beyond the almost inevitable adjustment period, it actually stabilises. And we're talking days, not even weeks.

  • Especially given that even in the best case scenario the period of recovery will be 8 years maximum. No matter who will be the next president, the one after will be another angry conservative, and I don't believe there will be a lot of progress after.

  • If you're willing to learn at any pace, and can do at least some "skilled work" as they call it, then just about everywhere. Usually you have 5 to 10 years to learn the language if you want to stay permanently. You can get by with English in most of europe.
Usually, if there is not a lot of jobs you can do speaking English, it means that the region isn't exactly rich and/or accommodating anyway.

  • No, I think there is a perpetual war going on there, and US is getting involved in it with depressing frequency with depressingly negative results, and although I don't believe it will be inevitability, randomly bombing random countries surely is a good recipe for a bad outcome.
