  • While it might feel good to judge religious people because you feel they are less generous to the poor in the way they vote, it is worth considering three things:

First, the religious easily out donate the rest of us both in percentage of donators and amount donated, whether it is to religious or secular causes.

Second, it is a lot easier to give away someone else's money than our own.

Third, most of them see a difference between donating, out of their excess, to a local organization that handles the money in a way they agree with, versus having their money taken by force, even if money is tight, by an organization (government) that handles the money in a way they don't agree with.

If someone likes donating to the Salvation Army and finds out that they are using 80% of their funds to pay for staff, then maybe they will stop supporting them and support Habitat For Humanity or a local food pantry instead. Whereas when the government takes their money and does what they want with it, they have little recourse when it is mismanaged.

  • I still might choose to take a picture of my buddy's cool drawing that he bought rather than buying my own copy. Though I agree that I am certainly not entitled to a free print at the author's expense.

Conversely, if I bought that drawing myself and it came with reflective glass glued to the front, so that pictures turned out blurry, I might be a little annoyed. Now I can't roll it up and put it with my other drawings without special accommodations. Also, I bought it and if I want to take a picture of it or wipe my ass with it then that is my choice. Making the life of your customers more difficult so you can make a little extra money is going to lose you some of those customers.

Not that I begrudge someone for making good money, but that dude said he is making $40k a month from his Patreon for DLSS3 mods. Does he really feel like he isn't get paid what his time was worth, or is he just getting greedy in a community that is usually more aligned with FOSS concepts?

  • Meh... I would bet most Christians ascribe to the same sort of philosophy that my pastor did back when I was in high school. He always said, "I don't know if there are aliens out there, but if there are they need Jesus too."

It's a bit silly, but he was also a creationist. If he could be fine with aliens but not evolution, I imagine the same is true for most other religious people.

  • I'm not sure that a facility that primarily focuses on substance abuse treatment is the best ADHD facility, unless you are trying to get clean of something too.

Also, I suspect that the places that are regularly testing their patients, are more concerned that the patients are selling their amphetamine based prescriptions or are amphetamine addicts than the well-being of the patients.
