  • I think, ultimately, the fate of any non-federated social network to eventually become another tool of the ruling class is simply a function of the hierarchical nature of the capitalist system. Federated platforms are resistant to this, but not immune, and I fear, with the rise of cheap Turing complete software, federated platforms are doomed as well.

  • Historically speaking, militant environmentalists have been targeting infrastructure, not people. The current mainstream movement is nonviolent to the point of absurdity, whereas their militant counterpart is basically nonexistent. It's a bit counterintuitive if you think about it; a movement which objects to the very real violence that industry subjects both people and entire ecosystems to is completely nonviolent.

  • If US commitment to the NATO nuclear umbrella is questioned, Russia will attempt to capitalize on it.

    Threats of nuclear action are considerably more believable when there's no threat of nuclear retaliation. Ukraine would never have been invaded if they still had nuclear weapons.

  • Reminds me of back in 2013 when Reddit admins accidentally revealed that Eglin Air Force Base, a location often cited as the source of government social-media propaganda/astroturfing programs, was the most Reddit addicted city in the world.
