  • So many posts perfectly summarising why I've always preferred the reddit format over twitter. On one you follow topics, on the other you follow people. I prefer to hear a wide range of views on one topic rather than one persons views on different topics.

  • I could be wrong but I thought this was also how UBI would be implemented? It would just be a safety net for those without employment?

Edit: I just googled it and I am indeed wrong. What I was thinking of is called a guaranteed minimum income. That makes a bit more sense to me than a UBI, but if it wasn't apparent I'm obviously not well read on the topics.

  • could be because they use a service with fees for their online payments, but I suspect it's also because they expect people to cough up a bit extra for the convenience.

I'm in Australia and where I live they're required to have three options for paying rent. Two were incredibly inconvenient and one was online and had a fee. Pretty sure they're just scumbags.

  • I love emojis even though I don't use them much. I just think it's really cool that this idea emerged and everyone got on board and now it's almost like a whole universal language - modern hieroglyphics or whatever else you want to call it. Plus they're just kinda fun and sometimes it's easier to convey a reaction with a specific smiley than it is with words. Language, however beautiful and elegant, is still sometimes wanting, you know?

  • I don't doubt it will be misused at all but we all know what happens without the censorship. The AI just ends up giving you the most racist answers it can find. There are good reasons to restrict some topics, especially since too often AI can just be misinformation and people should be getting that sort of stuff from an actual source.

  • Yeah, for art it's similar, you can get some really compelling results, but once tasked with creating something a bit too specific it ends up wasting your time more than anything.

There's definitely uses for it and it's really cool, but I don't think it's as close to replacing professionals as some people think.

  • I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. I don't think the current technology is going to replace programmers or artists any time soon (speaking as someone who works as an artist and programmer in a field that monitors ai and its uses) but I also acknowledge that my guess is as good as yours.

I don't think it's going to replace artists because as impressive as the demos we all see are, inevitably, whenever I've done any thorough testing, every AI model fails at coming up with something new. It's so held back by what it's trained on, that to contemplate it replacing an artist - who are very capable of imagining new things - seems absurd to me.

Same with programming - ask for something it doesn't know about and it'll lie and make something up and confidently proclaim it as truth. It can't fact check itself and so I can only see it as a time saving tool for professionals and a really cool way for hobbyists to get results that were otherwise off the table.

  • This is exactly what I felt while watching this. Does anyone really care about bezel width or weight or thickness when the differences have to be measured with callipers? And that stupid yellow tint when you're not looking directly at your phone. I'd actually like worse viewing angles for my phone because it seems better privacy wise.

Battery life is kinda nice if you're travelling or just not sure when you'll next be able to charge, but in those cases the solution is always to just get a battery pack for emergencies. All of these criticisms seem so out of touch with how people actually use their phones.

And when those compromises mean you have your phone longer and buy a more ethical, sustainable product that pays workers... Easy choice.
