  • Ha, yeah that connection capability made me switch from Qobuz. (My receiver has an app that connects to Deezer, no such luck with Qobuz.)

And fully agree on the playlists, I've really dug a few already.

  • I don't know if it hits all your needs but I switched to Deezer a couple of weeks ago and I really dig it.

Free trial month and absurdly easy to import all your stuff from spotify, so I'd just give it a shot and see if it scratches your itch!

  • Like I said, it's not universal yet but it's still been huge for tens of thousands of parents.

Edit: Sorry, that was brusque. I just think starting a transformative national daycare program that looks solid however nascent, is pretty impressive. Between a pandemic, record inflation, land war in europe AND starting a transformative new dental health program, I personally am okay with solid beginnings for now. In ten years, if these programs hold and expand properly, I might find myself impressed with Trudeau's legacy.

  • I mean, I really like the notion of training more tradespeople. Our lack thereof is a huge impediment to upping new home starts etc. But of course Polievre has to fuck it up and pair it with "and we'll pay for it by gutting government."

I hope Carney swipes the trades training thoughts from him and leaves him scrambling again just like the carbon tax.

  • I love a good jerk chicken:

Honestly, I've had a lot of success recently using LLMs for suggestions like this plus whatever I have in my fridge. Came up with a tasty siracha maple and maple mustard pair when I saw a deal on shitty bulk maple syrup.

They've really let me take advantage of deals and sales etc.

  • Year to date, stocks are down. 1 calendar year though, most are still up.

    I'd say it's a few things:

    1. Stock market loves de-regulation. (Fewer rules -> more profit.
    2. Stock market loves the promise of corporate tax cuts.
    3. Even with tarrifs and nonsense, most American stock indices are heavily skewed to the magnificent 7, all of which besides Tesla are fairly immune to global trade.
  • If I were on Carney's comms team, I'd be giggling, high fiving and writing up attack lines for Carney to crucify him on this. The EU and UK are moving towards essentially having tarrifs for countries without industrial carbon pricing.

With the US being a dumpster fire, making it harder to trade with our actual allies is about as boneheaded a move as you can imagine.

I guess, from his perspective it's worth it so he can say "ax the tax."

Edit: Whoops, meant costs on countries without a carbon tax. Thanks Mongostein!

  • Oh is that actually the case this time around? I remember the 2017 cuts by revenue mostly affected the top whatever but the poor still had a tax cut, it's just the amount of money saved was, by definition, significantly less than it was for the top earners.

  • This is such a good description that I am almost salivating.

Personally, I've enjoyed it everytime I've been eating them but felt very sick afterwards. Which is fair. If there weren't consequences I would soon have difficulties fitting into a vehicle.

  • I'm going to ignore the big Oscar Winner sort of stuff (12 years a slave etc) or super famous comedies (Napoleon Dynamite) and focus on some smaller stuff.

Rhymes for Young Ghouls - Feels like an Indigenous Guy Ritchie sort of movie. Heavy subject matter though (revenge on a residential school administrator) but quite good. Canadian made, Indigenous director.

Blood Quantum - Solid B movie, Indigenous community vs Zombie Apocalypse.

20th century women - Hard to describe but it's about a single mom raising her son in 1979. Great writing.

Banshees of Inisherin - A man tells another he'd no longer like to be friends. Things escalate incredibly from there. Darkly funny, one of my favourites of the year.

Snowpiercer - Really dark sci fi action, incredibly unsubtle class allegory.

Tangerine - Sean Baker's (who wrote n directed Anora) first movie. It's a day in the life of a transgender prostitute trying to find her cheating pimp/bf. It's heartfelt, wrenching and beautiful in its seedy way. Really good.

Goon - Think Slapshot but in modern times and funnier. "Two rules, stay away from my fuckin' percocets and do you have any fuckin' percocets?" "CHOOSE 69, IT'S HILARIOUS!" (I say this every time I'm playing sports and someone has the number 69, which is about 1/3 of the games. Even in adult leagues.)

(I assume if you're into horror you've seen the Babadook and It Follows but if not, damn you are in for a treat!)

  • I'm not sure if they are made in Canada (I just sent an email asking) but the Legion does sell Canadian flags. As the money goes to supporting veterans, I'd feel pretty good about buying one regardless. But I'll confirm where the flags are made when I hear back.

Edit: Got an email back confirming these are made in Canada! So double awesome, support veterans, support a Canadian flag manufacturer. What's not to love?
