Because I can't go two minutes without someone trying to sell me something, and it's infuriating. I can't even browse Lemmy without someone spamming my feed with their shitty Lets Play videos, or some random selfhosted project posted by the company who made it.
It's disingenuine, and is to me one of the single largest reasons I've switched over to decentralized platforms.
I maintain a silly belief that flies can in fact see a few seconds into the future, and that's how they evade things so deftly.

You have no way of verifying that the client is only doing what it claims. The Open Source community is highly suspicious of proprietary software, doubly so when it's based off of Open Source code.
If youre okay with that then no worries, but ofr myself and many others it's an absolute deal breaker.
