  • Thanks for posting this OP, it actually means a lot to see someone talking about this.

I've been very lucky in that my pain has responded really well to medication, but I'll never forget how absolutely awful it felt to be physically unable to play the games I love. I hope we continue to push for accessible features in games more and more, this is a great hobby and when you're trapped at home it can have an enormous impact on your quality of life. Even just the social aspect of gaming is a huge benefit.

  • I love trams, but in my city they're often slower than busses. And we still have a ton of old rolling stock with no wheelchair access.

I always prefer trains, but I no longer live near trams or trains. Instead I've got four bus routes, two of which go on the freeway just after the stop near my place. I've made it to my destination in under 10 minutes on that bus, it would normally be 20-30 minutes on a good day though.

  • It's hard to find first hand sources tbh, but here's as close as you can get from the guy who invented it. They decided to keep it exclusive because of how difficult it is to work with, and because they just aren't actually in the art business.

We can't work with hundreds of artists. We don't have that scale - it's just not our business. Our business is to create engineering components for satellites.

Is Kapoor a dick? Idk, probably, that's not my call to make. I just know that Stuart Semple is probably just as much of a dick.

  • No. I'm reasonably sure it's a massive misconception. He's the only person "using" it because it's fragile, dangerous and requires some stupidly expensive and difficult process to apply it. It's controlled by an aerospace manufacturing company who only lets him use it. It's not something that can be bought. It's not even paint, it's a process to bind carbon nanotubes to surfaces. Kapoor has absolutely no say in who uses the stuff, and he sure as hell doesn't own it.

Apparently the whole thing started because another artist (Stuart Semple, a known grifter) realised he could lie about Kapoor and sell his own paints if everyone thought he was the douche.

Long article if you care to read it, guy who actually made the stuff just doesn't want to work with a bunch of different artists when he's meant to be putting it in satellites: https://www.gq-magazine.co.uk/article/vantablack-anish-kapoor

  • I get a similar feeling, but to me I think it's because this is very similar to a right wing debate strategy, which is making the audience think you're cooler than your opponent and not worrying about being right.

    It's a very similar vibe

  • I have a personal server, mostly acting as a NAS but with some web hosting as well. For whatever reason, it randomly freezes until you manually power cycle it, it happens really often, like every 20 minutes.

Turns out it's due to some weird interaction between debian and older ryzen CPUs, if the CPU isn't busy it just dies. Solution? A Minecraft server, with no one on it, it keeps the CPU just busy enough to keep it alive. I've had it running for months at a time with no issues.

  • I have the second one on that list, and while I've got an ROG ally rather than a steam deck, I can tell you it performs quite well. I'm pretty sure these are often recommended for the deck for all the same reasons.

Load times are a little slower for bigger games, but that's usually just when starting the game up.

  • I never made anyone pay for it. Tax the wealthy, tax the fossil fuel companies or tax the car owners or something.

No system is going to be perfect, but the current system just takes the same money and keeps it for profit rather than say, extending the coverage of public transport to the less advantaged who need it.

I know things won't change, that we can't have the perfect and just system we deserve, but I reserve every right to be pissed that the current system is broken in the name of profit.
