  • Man, this made me realize that "flash in the pan memes" used to be so much longer lived than they are now. Nowadays something mega viral has a half life on the order of days but also has much more segmented awareness/spread

  • Guess that wasn't good enough

In June, the FAA announced it will require a secondary barrier between the passenger cabin and cockpit of new commercial planes that are manufactured starting in the summer of 2025.

That was at the end of the article. Not sure why but that pisses me off. Probably cause it seems purely like an act based out of fear rathe than in response to any threat/weakness

  • There is some ratio of civilian deaths to military targets hit that is essentially "acceptible". Especially when the military targets are amoung civilians. I don't know what that number is but it's definitely way way way way less than right now.

22k people dead is wholely unacceptable. At absolute best, giving Isreal the biggest benifit of the doubt I can, Isreal is indiscriminately killing civilians.

  • Could you imagine if they actually somehow lost the speakership, even if just for a couple of days? I hope dems play dirty and do some sort of vote on a day when there are some Republicans out. It'd be glorious shit stirring

  • From my understanding, the most capable spy satellites are either in geostationary orbit or polar orbits.

    • Geo orbit gets you constant survalance but in limited areas
    • Polar orbit gets you almost anywhere but only periodic survalance while you wait for the orbit to process.

So this can be good for getting somewhere you don't typically monitor in real time or to get quicker more real time info on a target.

Also, a big threat the government is worried about right now is the physical saftey of space assets. If someone launches a space weapon and takes out a spy satellite, I can see how the government would want a good fallback

  • Super frustrating to see a platform that was doing just fine (it wasstill Twitter, so I mean relatively) get flown directly into the ground so hard. Like, has he actually done anything whatsoever that has made it better? Twitter was technically profitable was was aiming to be actually profitable and now it's just a dumpster fire of money

  • I could shame OP for falling for the crypto hype but I think the more important lesson here is to never ever mix family and finances.

Even if you know for 100% fact that you have a slam dunk investment, it’s not worth it. Money corrupts.

Never loan money, even if you don’t expect it to get paid back. It creates a power imbalance. Envy and resentment for you having money is better than creating any financial ties.

Never go into business with family.

Don’t mix finances and family. Family is more important than money.

  • Ah, the good ole marine killer: Well There’s Your Problem episode on them

It’s been a shitshow of a craft since its inception but fuck me if they aren’t cool as heck. Sometimes they’ll fly some from a nearby airport and they’ll shake the entire building if they are in hover mode and it’s always awesome

  • If you use it without the strong drawl it’ll blend in perfectly fine. I’m willing to bet that the reason you don’t think it’s sounds nice is cause your brain hears the world then your brain hears in Squidbillies rather than just another Americanism of dropping syllables. That internal shift in your brain can cause dissonance and make it sound ugly.

I’ve worked hard to get rid of my southern accent but to me, “you all” just feels forced and clunky. Kind of like when someone uses an unnecessary vocabulary word when it doesn’t add any extra meaning.

There are many different accents for the word. My second favorite is the Georgia Peach / Antebellum. I don’t know the term for my top favorite but I’ll dub it “the highly educated and eloquent college professor who grew up in a swamp”, it’s like brown sugar for my ears

  • Meatball Ron might be more dangerous when it comes to legislation, he sucks when it comes to actually riling people up. People like it when he does dick things but he’s not gonna fill venues with people eager to do whatever he says. We are so far into the danger zone with trump that him getting into power will be the end rather than just being awful
