I have a dumb question: why heat up the vinegar? Does it help with some kind of chemical reaction in the mixing or does heat just help to make the mixture to be more effective so it needs to be used before it cools down?

My apartment has incredibly hard water, so sinks, toilets, and showers always look rough. It just now occurred to me that maybe rain x on the glass after cleaning could be a decent preventative measure unless somebody can tell me why that's a bad idea?

It'd be pretty great if an entire generation referred to this phenomenon as the Nintendo Yuzu Effect instead of the Streisand Effect. Or maybe the YouTube Adblock Effect? These companies keep accidentally telling everybody about shit that is relatively unknown yet universally desired in order to not have to pay exploitative prices. Even early Switch games are still fucking impossible to find for less than their launch price. And actually, now that I think about it, the MSRP of the Switch itself still hasn't dropped either. It costs just as much today as it did 7 goddamn years ago to legally buy a Switch, BotW, and Mario Odyssey. Nintendo's greed is the reason Switch piracy was ever big enough to be worth chasing, and now chasing it will cause an even bigger boom in it. Well, that and their shitty controllers. I don't blame anybody for wanting to play BotW with an Xbox controller on their last-gen PC.

Good luck and Godspeed! Write down every recent and upcoming success so you can cite objective improvements in your interviews/meetings. Customer feedback will help too. If you have any big clients who can vouch for you personally being the reason that your company kept their business, even better. The only risk there is that they may decide that you're too valuable in your current role, but you can get ahead of that by pitching that you'll be able to apply your success to bigger wins in a higher role and guide others to learn how to do what you've done. Worst case scenario, you don't get that promotion but you still have it all compiled for interviews elsewhere. If you want to be at the level of that promotion, you should chase it whether it's within the company or without! You got this!

The best part is that once you have proven expertise and an impressive resume, you don't even have to sound like you're saying no anymore. After being a lackey for a long time, it feels wrong to say no because it makes you feel like an asshole, but the reality is that there's only so much time; there are only so many hours in a day, and you have only so many days left in this world, and you should expect to actually enjoy some amount of those remaining days. Plus you start to realize that your value far exceeds your compensation, otherwise a company whose sole existence is for the purpose of profit would be incapable of existing since there is no profit if the labor is paid what it is objectively worth. So you just pick your battles and tell people to fuck off when they overstep. It costs money to hire and train a replacement, so unless you're already highly compensated, you have the power to say no to egregious asks and you really should, or you set precedent that you'll say yes to that type of shit and they will continue pushing until they find the line where you finally say no. There is risk that they'll fire you and figure out later that it takes more than one new hire to do what you were already doing without considering the scope creep, but with a good resume and a healthy savings I enjoy playing chicken with a bad boss.

I've been with my current company for almost 3 years and I've only had to say no a couple of times. They're far from perfect, but they're good enough that I actually don't like to say no when I have to here. They pretty much always have reasonable asks. I'm 35 but I could actually see myself staying here until retirement unless they drastically change. I know for a fact that I could go elsewhere for similar pay and treatment pretty easily (because I've interviewed and received offers but turned them down because the pain of change wasn't worth something lateral), so I'm ready if they do pivot to fuck this environment up but I'd really rather stay.

Unless you miss out on raises or promotions because of this or lose your job, this is meaningless. It's "this will go on your permanent record" but for adults. This is coming from somebody who is pretty proudly the quiet worker who stays around the middle of the pack and does just enough to keep things slightly better than just maintained, so both coworkers and bosses can objectively see that I'm neither making things worse nor just keeping things coasting. And I got a promotion last year, so I guess it's the right strategy (here, anyway) lol.

So fucking much. Less stress and dread. I moved to an area I like much more. I bought a roomba with my first paycheck so I could automate keeping the floors clean. I just about had a breakdown when I got sick and my boss supported me staying home instead of chastising me for calling out. People listen to my ideas and take action on the good ones. I feel confident because I'm trusted to just do the shit I know I'm supposed to do. Advancement opportunities are basically just expected when something opens up.

Because I'm not so stressed out or spread thin in my work hours, I'm better able to enjoy my off hours. I cook. I play music. I play games with my friends online. I take my wife out on dates. I can afford to plan for things in the future instead of just surviving day to day and collapsing when I can.

My job isn't amazing btw. It's rotating shift work, frequently swapping between day shift and night shift, 12 hour shifts. It's pretty unpredictable because it can be incredibly active and exhausting or maybe I'll sit on my ass for a few hours at a time. I can get very dirty or sore or cramped if things aren't super smooth. I'm outside in the elements a decent amount. And the healthcare is so lame that my wife gets us better healthcare by working at Starbucks for >20 hours per week. But unless I need to cover for somebody or there's some kind of emergency, I get 7 days off in a row every 4 weeks. That and the high pay are where the peace of mind comes from.

I think you're making the right call. I bought a used Steam Deck and I love it and don't regret it at all, but I think I'm more of the target demographic than you are. I built a PC 15 years ago when Windows 7 was launching and then upgraded it a few years later, and then replaced that with a gaming laptop that's now very outdated. I'm sorta kinda tech savvy; a fucking doofus compared to somebody like you but a goddamn genius compared to most people I meet.

The Steam Deck proved to me that if/when I build a desktop, (and I want that to be soon but I keep getting surprise expenses lol,) then I'm ready to jump over to Linux as my OS. I was thinking Chimera for something that could effectively be a powerful modern Steam Machine with UI similar to Steam Deck, but Nobara looks more versatile for being a full PC instead of being a console that has PC capability. I have more faith in Nobara to be able to run a big project in a DAW like Reaper, plus I want the ability to stream on Twitch or do some basic video editing too, and it seems to be pretty accessible to a long-time medium-level Windows user like me.

Right now, most of my Steam Deck use is on the couch. My wife never really tried Skyrim, so she's playing a file on the PS5 and I lay my head in her lap on the couch and play a different Skyrim file on the Deck. But I also play it on a train or take it with me when I go somewhere overnight. It can't keep up with a modern PC or PS5, but it blows me away that it's a handheld PC that's about as powerful as a PS4. People bitch about the battery, but tweaking a few simple sliders can double or even triple battery life with relatively little compromise. It's amazing but it's a waste of your time and money lol.

We're supposed to defend the weak, house the exposed, feed the hungry, wash the unclean, etc. Instead, we're helping Israel to bomb schools and hospitals after telling people that those places are safe from their hellfire. History textbooks will reveal that we were standing idly by while our government funded this, downplayed this, and vetoed every attempt to pause this. There is no legitimate excuse to have allowed this to continue. I fucking hate my country for this. I'm ashamed to be an American, just as much today as I was during trump's presidency. But I still want to take a moment to remind everybody that trump would've 100% made this even worse. I'm not saying to not vote for Biden. I'm saying please, for the love of God, vote in local elections, vote in primaries, and get us somebody better than this fucking shithead neolib next time, but in the meantime help him to beat the autocratic fascist because Biden is way better even though he still fucking sucks.

I'm in Ashburn, VA. I just looked at Zillow and saw that the cheapest single family home right now is $625k for 2060 sqft. If you have a credit score >719 and put $100k (~16%) down, it's only $4438/month according to their estimates.

So my wife and I live in an apartment with no kids or pets, and we both work a lot... Maybe one day we can afford a townhouse? I just found a decent looking one that's only $450k so $3200/month...

That's not the same as a submarine testing a missile launch, dude. A plane missing a runway is something that people nearby will see. I'm talking about stuff that would require clearance to even know that they're testing it in the first place lol.

How would you know if they aren't telling you? Idk about you, but I'm not getting any reports about drills and tests from my representative. Maybe military contractors are getting that for the specific equipment they're selling so they can improve on issues, but I don't expect that that info is publicly available. After all, mishaps might hurt stock valuation 🙃
