  • There seems to be plenty of police available to shut down universities over Palestine protests, so it's not a staffing issue to put him in jail and keep the building guarded. They have plenty of shields, pepper bullets, rubber bullets, teargas, etc in case his coward supporters go for a full January 6 here. So golly gee, I just can't quite figure out what the issue is here. /s

In reality, I get it. The judge doesn't want to be in history books for putting a major presidential candidate and ex president in jail, especially just a few months before the election, especially when he really can't guarantee that person's safety. Imagine what happens if trump dies in jail. If we could trust police to be public servants rather than an organized gang engaging in racketeering against the working class as directed by the owning class, then maybe we could see proper justice.

What's maybe most frustrating is that we all see that the state can be swayed by assumed mob reactions from the right, yet the left doesn't dare weaponize those same implied threatens that we can clearly see are effective. Most cops are cowards. We are angrier and better armed than most on the right can imagine, and the system isn't sufficiently afraid of us.

  • This is the truth. Focus on yourself for now. Learn things, get good at stuff, advance your career, understand different perspectives, cook and eat healthy food that tastes good. Be somebody you really want to spend time with. A significant chunk of this is just you being confident and comfortable in who you are. Then people (including women) will be interested in spending time with you.

It helps to not be broke or ugly, but dressing well and washing yourself and smelling pleasant can get you pretty far.

  • Ukraine wants to fight for their nation. You think that if they wanted to surrender, they wouldn't have done so by now? Stop pretending that trump is giving them a choice rather than taking away their choice to defend their nation. Yes, the US and Europe can benefit from helping this proxy conflict, but if a fire were burning up your next door neighbor's house, would you deny that helping them to put out that fire helps keep your house safe too? Withholding aid is what is getting Ukrainians killed, and trump should know all about that since it's what got him impeached. The first time, specifically. And now he's a salty, petulant child who wants Ukraine wiped off the map because of that, plus he will do anything to please Putin, and Putin wants to steal that land back to force a strongman legacy.

Don't be obtuse. This isn't complicated. The former president has the temperament of a 6 year old by his own admission. He wants to sucker punch Volodymyr after the 3:30 bell because trump got caught copying off his worksheet. It's like connect the dots but you only need to draw two very obvious lines.

  • Only in the same way that saying he will end a hostage negotiation means he hates hostages. The context of how he will do it matters. Shooting the hostage does technically end the negotiation, and that's the equivalent to what he is suggesting. He would just have Ukraine surrender or at least cede territory which would only appease Russia for so long. We know this from history. Without due consequence, this is just rewarding Russia for their bad behavior. But trump is incapable of understanding behavioral consequences because he's never not been rewarded for being a selfish asshole.

  • Kernel level anticheat for a few games is the only real speedbump I'm aware of, and it's only on a couple of game franchises like CoD I think. I would love it a ton of people made the switch and it hurt those games' companies revenue noticeably enough that they look for a way to moderate cheating without just lazily requiring Windows in order to play online.

Linux is finally convenient enough to realistically steal swaths of customers from Microsoft, and it's at the same time that Windows 11 is pissing a ton of people off. We're in for some strange times.

  • For real. What does this even mean? How does this headline impact our lives in any way? How did they "slam" these strikes and what was the consequence of said "slam"? Was it really just that they had a journalist ask a diplomat of some kind about it and they just said something like "we do not condone strikes on oil refineries because of the rippling global economic impact"? And they didn't want to have their journalist come back without a story even though there's no story here?

  • Yep. Just pointing this out so we can dial up the pressure ahead of time. Continuous pressure has finally gotten Biden to start talking about a ceasefire in Gaza, so pressure does work, even if it takes an unacceptably long time.

  • People were publicly pointing out that the money made from that IPO was theoretical and unrealized gains that couldn't be sold off for 6 months per SEC rules specifically because it was assumed that he would probably try. If it's found that that's what happened, we need to pressure the SEC to make the punishment more than just the cost of doing business. I'm tired of seeing businesses and billionaires getting fined only a couple million for stealing a couple billion.

  • Maybe I'm stupid, but I can't get glide typing to work. I don't see it in the settings for heliboard.

Also, is there any reason to switch to newpipe if ReVanced is serving me well?

Edit: Nevermind, I got glide typing to work! That took some digging. If anybody else has trouble, download this and go to heliboard settings, advanced, and go to the bottom where you can load in a gesture library, which is what I linked to.

  • I'm trying it. This was the kick in the ass I needed to finally go ahead and get F Droid. Anything else I should be getting from there? I've heard of some good apps through it but idk what a sorta "standard" user might be interested in.

  • Same. Personally, for whatever reason, piped links almost never work for me. I'm sure they work for others or the bot posts wouldn't get upvotes. Revanced or Firefox with a blocker almost always work for me though.
