  • Not the person you're asking, but vote for better people in local elections and primaries. The time to choose a better leader for this issue was every election before this one. Vote for better people now to solve tomorrow's problems. Democracy is a constant battle for the future.

  • Now that fast food is no longer cheaper than a sit-down restaurant, it just means that fast food has no use case anymore. You're better off picking up a grab&go type thing from the grocery store. Fast food used to be cheaper, more consistent, and faster, but with the concession that the quality wasn't great. Now it's expensive, it completely sucks in unpredictable ways, and it isn't actually that fast. It's like the industry only exists for people who are on a road trip and also want to punish themselves for some reason.

  • He's learned that pussyfooting around actual answers gets the same amount of applause and much less criticism compared to actually taking a stance. He's a coward who just says whatever makes people adore him most. He doesn't believe in anything beyond what currently suits him.

Also, it's pretty fucking gross that the guy currently on criminal trial for a hush money payment cover-up over an affair who also was found liable for sexual assault in a recent civil case is being asked whether he would restrict contraceptives if elected president... and he's not just saying no. This is after installing justices who overturned Roe. There's no takeaway I can see other than that he wants women to be vulnerable to impregnation without access to prevention or abortion. He's endorsing breed-rape. Trump voters are woman-haters, and most of them are either too stupid or too cowardly to stand up and say that. A vote for trump is a vote to make every woman you know more vulnerable to a stranger ruining her life with his pathetic little pecker.

  • Same. I started with a couple of friends around when it became F2P. They live in another city, so that plus voice chat is just how we catch up and chill, usually with a few drinks and with some dumb jokes here and there. We're familiar with the controls and systems and everything, so doing anything else has the barrier to entry of learning a whole new thing. R6 Siege looks cool but complicated. I don't get Destiny 2. FC24 is pretty good but I'm not sure it has the same staying power for us as RL.

  • I've said it before and I'll say it again: conservatives who think that sexual orientation or gender identity are choices think that because they themselves have chosen to remain in the closet. They lie to themselves and resent that other people might have an easier time than they've had and continue to have. I don't care that they're gay, but I care about hypocrisy.

  • PSA: On PS5, after launching your game, hit the PS button. If there are activities, you can probably hit square to resume. This speeds through all the startup wankery and the main menu straight to loading your save. It rarely saves time, but it means you can launch your game and walk away to get a glass of water or whatever. I enjoy it.

  • Gotcha, yeah that's the best of both worlds then.

I didn't mean that you will be in an echo chamber so much as that they will be in an echo chamber because if everybody ignores them then they have nobody left to challenge them. There are a ton of lurkers reading but never or rarely posting or commenting, so I'm mostly challenging bad faith arguments for their benefit. Without challenge, somebody casually reading might just accept that bad faith argument as fact or at least valid. Idk how effective it is, but I'm doing what I can to reduce the radical right wing incel neckbeard population. 🤷‍♂️

  • As a resident of Virginia, fuck Glenn Youngkin. He's been a dogshit governor who has accomplished nothing and blocked all attempts at progress. When he eventually runs for president, I hope you all remember shit like this instead of saying "well at least he isn't trump." He's not really any different except he isn't as polarizing, which is why he is a bigger threat. The same hateful policies but in a prettier package. He fucking sucks. Don't fall for his bullshit. He campaigned on lowering grocery bills and obviously did fuck all about it because let's be real, he was never gonna do anything about that, he just knew that people were complaining about it. He has no ideas that will help you in any way whatsoever. He's a useless piece of shit and I'm looking forward to salting his grave.

  • For those powerful few, it was better back then. And these fucks make their living by convincing bigots that they might one day be in that group of the powerful few, so they should support giving power to them. And it works because these same fucks have defunded education and given conspiracy lunacy a massive platform that offers dopamine for participation.

  • You're doing the right thing for your mental health, I think. The only reason I don't do the same thing is that I want to be aware of how prevalent the toxicity is. It's pretty easy to wave off fringe stuff as being insignificant only to find that you were in a bubble and that fringe shit has grown really big. And it gets to grow bigger without somebody there to challenge it.

10% of people believe that the moon landing was fake, the earth is flat, and covid vaccines contained tracking microchips. 10% isn't the majority or anything, but it's significantly higher than I would've thought. With the habitual defunding of education, increased misinformation and disinformation in media, reduction of in-person interactions with strangers due to online shopping and streaming, and encouragement by algorithms that show people only what they want to see, we're driving people deeper into echo chambers. We're forgetting how to respectfully disagree and discuss thoughtfully. We're backsliding societally to solving problems with our fists. As much as I think Nazis deserve to get punched in the mouth, I think proper discussions would prevent them from becoming Nazis in the first place.

Fascism is on the rise globally, and part of it is because fascists can find fascists and radicalize people into fascism more easily than ever, and part of it is because it's easier to ignore fascism than it is to publicly challenge it. Even outside of fascist moderators who will ban those who challenge the ideas in the first place (my ban from r/conservative was a badge of honor when I was on reddit).

I'm glad you've found a way to keep it as a palatable experience. I still have some fight in me, but I'll probably need to filter some of this garbage out soon.
