Yeah, the simplest the answer is usually correct. Is this a conspiracy involving hundreds of Google employees intentionally building features to slow the app down on Firefox or is it incompetence because they don't test their product on multiple browsers?

Many of these features are required by law in the US for cars that have ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems). The car has to monitor what's happening and what it's doing and record some of that in case there's an accident. It also has to monitor your attentiveness so you don't "accidentally" drift off to sleep while it's in control.

Imagine if his son were driving and got into a crash with ADAS enabled and there weren't any record of whose fault it was, the driver or the car. Ford would be like, "We'll, I guess we'll never know. Good luck with medical bills and a lifetime of suffering."

Sounds like the speed limiter is a setting that can be disabled. As for the other stuff, sharing phone data, that's pretty disgusting. I would guess what they're actually after is whether you're watching the road or playing with your device. Still not okay without explicit consent before you buy the car.

Social systems aren't all or nothing. Government run health care: socialist/communist. Government regulating businesses: socialist. Enabling competition among businesses: capitalist.

Engels and Marx believed an all-in approach was best, but even they believed in the value of incremental improvement. We don't have to implement an entirely pure socialist government before we can say we've adopted any socialist ideas at all.

That said, my wife has worn makeup twice in 18 years. I love her for being herself, but I complimented her on how nice she looked those two times her sister did her makeup because I'm not a complete jerk and have some idea of how to be kind when someone has spent an hour trying to look nice. Marx's definition of socialism is unhelpful, has been detrimental, should be ignored. He did advocate for socialism, but in a specific way. He saw socialism as a step towards communism. Marx believed that after a workers' revolution, society would first enter a socialist phase where the workers control the government and economy. Then, eventually, this would lead to communism, where there would be no need for a state and everyone would share everything equally.

The United States regulates businesses, provides welfare. Those are socialist ideas. China, controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, has rich and poor people. It isn't communist.

I haven't been in a plant where management tells everyone to go crazy and ignore safety because 1. they aren't monsters and 2. lawsuits. They're financially motivated to do the right thing. This needs to become illegal. Ads are part of the price you pay for a device or service. If you didn't agree to them at the time of purchase, they can't be sprung on you after you've paid.

As someone who maintained an API, 80% to 90% of my time was discovering that hackers were attempting an exploit, blocking it, adding monitoring, building abuse prevention. After we shut our API off, we could turn services back on, especially free services that we only took away because hackers.

Not to mention the support volume. More than half of our support calls were, "Why did you suspend my account? I'm a poor old grandpa. I want to appeal." Okay, yep we looked into activity and you sent 50000 requests in less than a minute and that's all you ever did with this account. Did you know hackers lie and will spend hours getting tech support? You go to school to be an engineer to build cool stuff and instead field bullshit support requests all day from people trying to destroy the thing you want to build so they can maybe make thirty bucks and cost you tens of thousands. It sucked the life out of me and turned me eternally cynical.

I want to make the, "free", moniker illegal. Advertisers have to pay money for ads and they get that money from us when we buy their products. In addition to having to look at ads, we also have to pay money for the privilege of looking at them. Any ad supported service is objectively not free. No thanks.

Yeah, because two wrongs make a right. Instead of, "Here are some balanced teaching materials that contain a diversity of races and genders and cultures.", what we need is to repeat past mistakes, only backwards and not based on data or with any metric based goal in sight, but our perceptions of, "vast majorities".
