  • I assumed OP was asking about hobbies that can't be done the old way anymore because everything has been converted to a newer way that makes it easier but not as much fun anymore. Like in the example I posted earlier it's now impossible to buy a fully handmade high quality guitar anymore unless I want learn how to build it myself from scratch or pay thousands of dollars for a high end custom guitar because almost all affordable guitars are built on assembly lines now

  • When I was a kid me and my friends who lived on my street would always trade or borrow our NES and SNES cartridges

  • I used to go out to bars with my friends and play darts in college and it was always fun to just play and even make up your own rules sometimes! That makes me kind of sad that something as simple as throwing pointy sticks at a board had to be computerized... I could see the benefit if you were playing in a pro tournament or something, but just trying to enjoy a game of darts with your buddies definitely doesn't need all of that

  • It hasn't for me really because most of my hobbies are still done more or less the way they always have been lol I cross stitch and build models and the whole point of those is that they're handmade. I collect vinyl records which hasn't really changed much except that they're more expensive now. I play guitar which technology has mostly helped more than hinder... The only thing I can think of is that a lot of the modern assembly line cheap guitars aren't really built all that well anymore, especially considering the price you pay for them, but even that has gotten a lot better in the last decade

  • Player Piano is a really great book! It doesn't get as much love as his later stuff and i think it's because it was Vonneguts first novel and he hadn't really developed the writing style people associate with his other more famous novels. It's still a great read I enjoyed from beginning to end!

  • I seem to recall that if the total calories are below a certain point they're still allowed to call it "zero calorie". Diet Coke is mostly water which has no calories and all the other ingredients probably amount to like 2 or 3 calories total. Since that's considered a negligible amount they just list it as zero

  • While we're at it why not look for a way to force horses to only eat rare steak? I'm sure we can find a healthy way to do it if we try hard enough!

  • What do you mean? All I suggested was that disagreements could be settled with an online consent form.

  • There's a very simple solution to all of this. Just require the user upload a form showing that their dog or cat consented to being converted to veganism in defiance of their very nature 👍

  • Are there single occupancy bathrooms that don't have a lock on the door? Any office I've worked at you just try the handle and if it's locked you just go do something else until the person in there is done lol

  • The person in the article kind of does this a little bit but just seems to give up after the third or fourth non answer

  • we're leading the internet

I don't know who posted those videos

    probably "the parents"

    The rules are very clear

It's kind of a grey area

I swear he manages to talk for hours and never actually say anything...

  • I don't see a body cam...

  • I suspect a lot of people on here don't like the idea of monetizing Lemmy since that kind of defeats the whole purpose of Lemmy. It sounds more like something people would do on Reddit or Instagram

  • So... Basically turning your Lemmy account into a half-assed Patreon then? Pass.

  • I switch between Boost for Lemmy and Jerboa. Boost has more features but is a little more complicated to use. Jerboa is super simple and made everything easy but it's missing a few features I need to use occasionally.

  • What's wrong with it?
