  • Yeah, there's no way I'll ever be able to afford to live somewhere like Seattle.

  • Yep, that's my point. I've lived in Texas all my life and never heard someone discharge a gun outside of a legal area. You've lived in Texas for 30 years and heard guns being fired regularly despite being in the city.

Don't get me wrong, Texas is fucked in many ways, and while I'll be sad to leave the scenery and ecology behind, I won't be sad to leave the people (except my friends who live here).

  • What state/city is this in? That sounds really nice, though I'm guessing it's a very expensive place to live. Seems like you either get cheap and hateful, or expensive and tolerant in the US.

Edit: I actually really wanna know. Depending on the cost of living it might become my no. 1 destination.

  • I live in Texas, I've never had a gun go off near me outside of a gun range or rural area (where it's legal and acceptable). Anecdotal experiences can be wild, right?

  • I'm trans. America's right-wing, who are now in control, have repeatedly talked about how America needs to be purged of "transgenderism".

  • Don't be an asshole, lmao. You complain about Americans being bloodthirsty fucks and then you turn around and act like the typical "snooty, judgmental and condescending euro-prick" stereotype we have here in the states.

The reason why I'm engaging with you is because you're not wrong, America has become extremely angry and bloodthirsty. However, that doesn't give you an excuse to be condescending about it.

  • It fucking sucks, yo. "That's just how life is" is becoming my mantra. Quite honestly, I'm not sure I'll ever find a place where I'll feel safe, secure and supported. I don't think trans people get to have all three, nor will we ever.

  • I'm technically American, but America wants me dead. As such, I do not voluntarily identify as American anymore. Dunno if that's what they're referring to, but ye.

  • Our standard of living is collapsing and we have no way out because all of our media is controlled by billionaires, all our politicians are controlled by billionaires, the economy is controlled by billionaires, our entertainment is controlled by billionaires. This is what the billionaires want, so it's what the billionaires get. I'm probably about to lose my hrt and could soon find myself in financial ruin because Texas is trying to establish bounty laws that'd allow people to sue trans people and doctors who offer gender affirming care. Healthcare costs are out of control as well. It cost me $300 for a single appointment at planned parenthood to start hrt. My therapist, who I see weekly, costs over $200 a session. Insurance will not cover either one, because it doesn't see either one as being medically necessary.

So yes, we are getting extremely pissed off.

  • Everyone acting like this is a problem with algorithms or whatever. Nah, algorithms have nothing to do with it. Humans are just this stupid and will follow their desire to be "right" even if it leads them off a cliff. I mean, Lemmy loves feeding trolls. No one on Lemmy seems to understand the concept of "block and move on" (not that I'm totally guilt-free, I love feeding trolls for the same reason I love feeding campfires).

No one on Lemmy will just ignore the trolls. Quite honestly, I'm wondering if the Internet should adopt a new strategy: mock the troll-feeders. If you catch someone engaging with a troll, you start making fun of them for feeding it. Make it clear that's why you're mocking them. Then maybe they'll grow a brain and stop feeding them (except intentionally, because that's honestly kinda fun sometimes).

  • That's fucking awesome. I love that.

Edit: motherfucker bitch-slapped bunyan with a fish. The ecocidal maniac deserved it.

  • You see ass-destroying slide, I see the makings of a FFA KoTH paintball/airsoft arena.

  • That's amazing. I'll have to say that to any gen alphas I come across.

  • Only like, 4~5 of the meetups out of like, 28 of the furry ones in my area are actually furry-specific. Most are general activities like rock climbing, going to an arcade, going roller skating, etc.

They're just run by furries, but I'd be willing to bet there are people in those groups who aren't.

Edit: I do agree that it sounds weird at first glance; however I'd highly suggest trying it anyway.

  • There are furry groups for car enthusiasts, arcades, rock climbing, horror enthusiasts, roller skating, skateparks, six flags and other stuff, all in my area. So, no, you kinda don't need to be a furry because the meetups range from furry specific to more general interests.

  • Look up furry groups around you. Start at the closest major city and work up. No, you don't have to be a furry to go to one. The reason why I'm suggesting it is because furries are some of the most welcoming and accepting people you'll ever meet (I'm totally not biased tho). Chances are they'll be some of the best friends you've ever had; so long as you're as accepting as them. They also tend to have a wide array of interests, with tech and tech accessories being one of the most common.

  • Didn't someone come up with an alternative model that said that, because galaxies vary in mass, time must also varies between galaxies; and said model was able to predict the effects of dark matter and dark energy?

Edit: it seems like a painfully obvious statement, which is why it confused me when I first read it. Like, no shit time is gonna vary between galaxies due to differences in mass.

  • Riiiiiight. They can't afford a car and can barely pay rent despite being split between three of them, so they can definitely afford to move to Ohio.

  • I know several people who work at Walmart. I wouldn't say they are stupid, but they're trapped in a shitty situation where they all rely on public transportation (in Texas) to get to work, which means Walmart is one of the only options.
