  • I think most rational people understand it was more than an inconvenience. But weighed against the fact that some areas literally had to bring in refrigerated semi trailers to store dead bodies because there wasn’t anywhere else to put them, and how much worse it could have been without some restrictions, many people think it was a reasonable temporary trade-off.

  • you're saying that you don't understand what manslaughter is

No, they’re just saying that instead of manslaughter being a more severe charge than assault, maybe it should be lessened to be equivalent. Similarly, maybe attempted murder should carry a charge equivalent to actual murder.

  • I can’t tell if:

    1. You labeled the colors wrong
    2. Your camera white-balance is way off
    3. You are moderately color-blind
    4. Some combination of the all of the above

Because to me, “White” looks like olive, “Magenta” looks like salmon, and “Pink” looks like clay.

  • FM access would cut down on mobile data usage… up-to-the-minute weather reports and automated alerts… are broadcasted at 162.400, which means you need specialized radios to pick up the stations… maybe an external antenna could use the shield or one of the pins on the phone’s charging port, or wired USB-C headphones and 3.5mm adapters could be updated to work as antennas… There could also just be an adapter that connects to the phone and contains all the required hardware…

What the fuck is this person smoking?

  • Although it’s true you’re going about 30mph when you hit the ground from that height, it’s much more harmful because of the continued acceleration due to gravity. An equivalent scenario would be hitting a brick wall at 30mph which then immediately begins accelerating into you at 9.8 m/s^2.

  • The US military has 1.4M active-duty personnel. With a turnover rate around 20% per 36 months, that’s about 2.9M cumulative service members from 2001-2021. During that same time period, US forces suffered about 7000 casualties. That’s a fatality rate of 0.24%, which is not that much higher than that of a civilian living in Detroit in the 90s.

  • I think the appropriateness of this criticism is highly dependent on subject. You can fit Maxwell’s equations on a sticky note, but most electrical engineering work will be learning how to apply those laws in a practical way. On the other hand, if you’re in an English Literature course and didn’t read the literature your class will be discussing, that’s on you.
