  • That kinda sucks, a lost opportunity. I really don't want to use Google, and preferably not Samsung either.

So either: Network operator / Big tech 😑

I guess I trust the network operator more due to semi-strict laws in Norway on privacy.

  • Checked if I got the vaccine when I was a child, yesterday. I was vaccinated.

Get your vaccines if you can folks, not everyone can get it. Herd immunity is important for those who can't or have parents that are stupid (sorry) enough not to let their child get it.

Edit: Clarified that I was vaccinated already.

  • Hmm..

So your argument is that we potentially lose valuable insight?

I agree in principle, but it is hard to balance.

Because without a certain amount of civility we potentially lose the voice of minorities and oppressed groups of people.

In a free democratic country you of course should be legally allowed to be abrasive and say mean hurtful things.

How would you balance/solve this dilemma on a social network? The same way as the law?

I am a bit torn here

  • To be fair, that's kinda deserved. You could experience the same here.

There are plenty of other reasons to hate on Reddit, but acting in a fairly civil manner should be expected.

Glad to have you here though! 😊

  • I have always found the concept of littering bizzare. And not from a "do what is right" perspective.

"Do you not understand that it will be there basically your entire life, unless someone picks it up!? Every time you walk by, you will see that wrapper you just threw on the ground for months and years. You have pockets!"

  • It is not a problem in many contexts. For instance complementing people in social non-work gatherings. "Wow, you look great in that suit", or "You are even prettier than I remember". Or when talking about someones ability to attract attention.

However in the context of an important message from a person, it derails the conversation and kinda just objectifies a person. As if it is more important than what they are saying or contributing.

It basically boils down to this: Do you want to be remembered for being good looking or your contributions to this world? How does it feel to be unsure if you got the job, because of looks? Or if people are listening because of your looks?

I am glad you asked, and I already saw someone gave a great explanation, but wanted to pitch in as well 😊
