  • You are not a machine and you have the right to happiness. I hope you find it.

I recommend therapy, if you haven’t tried it, and if it’s not working, I suggest different therapists, or different types of therapy. It’s okay to tell a therapist you’re not getting much out of their style/your relationship with them, and ask for their assessment of what you should be looking for. Then go look at that. Keep trying until you find something that clicks.
If it helps, in your shoes I would view it as a continuation of your parental duties. When she moves out, or maybe has kids of her own, you can continue the relationship with her and your grandchildren as your genuine, authentic, and - perhaps - happy self.

  • An ex from a meaningful, but fraught relationship tried to seduce me a few months after we had broken up. In the interim, I had started dating someone new, and I rejected the advances.

My ex was angry and lashing out. She said a few random insults about my new partner (implying she had manipulated me with sex), before finally saying “well, I hope she enjoys your magical penis!” (It’s not magical. The tiny wizard hat is purely for decoration.)

  • I mean. It’s not magic. Even I could run a basic computer vision system from a raspberry pi and a webcam. They could easily come up with a system that returns confidence percentages for bags vs humans. Assuming the baggage isn’t coming in too warm, they could have an IR thermal camera that stops the line if it detects any temperature over a certain threshold. They could also use other tests, like two pictures a few seconds apart to see if something is moving on its own on the belt. I’m sure there are even more tests than the ones above, let alone design changes that could disincentivize folks doing dumb stuff, or making their dumb stuff easier to spot - like putting the end of the return conveyer behind plexiglass, so the person is visible on the conveyer before they disappear into the wall.

All of the above are not 100% solutions, but taken together, they can establish a reasonable confidence level they’re not about to intake something that isn’t a bag.

  • I have this notion that one day it would be nice to be neighborly enough to just put out a sign that says “fresh coffee”, “brunch”, “Beer on tap” or whatever as a signal that people should drop by for a chat.
But I’m not really in my neighborhood’s demographic. It’s an older neighborhood, and the only folks close to my age seem like extreme introverts.

  • I’m not sure how to respond, other than to note that you’re 1.) excessively hostile and attribute intent to an inquisitive, non-challenging comment that offered you an extreme amount of leeway in which you could respond in a not-dickish manner, and 2.) you implied something in a medium where you do not know your audience and cannot convey subtext, then got defensive when your failure to explicitly communicate resulted in others misunderstanding you.

My main comment was about linguistics, really. “Since 2016” is factually wrong with no hint you’re implying something else. I was willing to accept that perhaps I was not up with shifting language trends. What you believe you were saying - the implied ‘since Trump’s 2016 win’ makes perfect sense, but that is not what you wrote.
Considering that others actually challenged you on that point and you are generally underwater in your vote ratio, I think it’s fair to say that you are the outlier, and it is not others reaching to misunderstand you or attempt to correct you. It must be a very frustrating existence to poorly communicate and expect others to understand you.

And my edit was offering you an opportunity to sidestep the whole linguistics part of it (of which, I remind you - I was not telling you that you were wrong, but asking you if my interpretation was wrong.), and say you meant that the democrats won the popular vote, which is true. My other additions were my own lamentations of the bullshit electoral system, which you seem to have taken as a personal attack.

I hope you have a day that is as lovely as you.

  • Do you understand “since 2016” to be inclusive of, or exclusive of the year?

    To over explain:
I understand “since 2016” to be inclusive of the year, which would imply you’re saying they won 2016.
But the only way your statements make sense to me is if you understand them to exclude 2016.

Not attempting to argue. I literally can’t tell if I’m shifting off the linguistics baseline as I age/my neurodiversity seems to be getting worse, or if I’m just fucking losing it.

Edit: Another, more likely meaning occurred to me. You may be asserting they won the presidential election, which - they did not. They won the popular vote. They lost the election, however, because presidential elections are designed so that landowners have more say than raw numbers of voters.
It’s an unjust and inequitable electoral approach, but it is the way U.S. presidential elections are determined.

  • A dispensary near me just got in 200mg edibles for $3. Both me and the attendant were sort of suspicious of it (new brand, new product), and I stuck with my usual brands, which vary between $12 and $20 for the same quantity.
But 2 years ago, my ‘usual’ was $18-$25 for 100mg.

They’re definitely racing to the bottom, and we’ve already had a few local grow ops go under as bigger outfits are taking advantage of economy of scale/better planning.

  • They can’t import because that would involve transporting the product over state lines, which is interstate commerce, and in federal jurisdiction, where it’s still illegal. (At least, they can’t import legally, or document any importation.)

They probably .. uh.. fax or teleport? seeds to new grow operations that get set up between the law’s passage and implementation. I hear that stuff grows fast – like a weed!
