  • Have you tried self hosting it or know what goes into it? Do you know of any alternatives? The functionality I'm after is being able to use a different email address per service I sign up for and tracking that with bitwarden, then forwarding all emails to my main email.

  • It's fair to want to be optimistic and to want to fight against doomerism. I think OP was misguided at best.

To be fair, I don't think I was as clear as I could have been either. It's just that post just has smells of neoliberalism has fixed the world propaganda. These are the same kinda statistics they use to justify an immoral and unethical economic system. I think a lot of people agree and get slightly triggered seeing these same untrustworthy statistics paraded around.

  • the last two are easily debunked. I hate shit like this because it reinforces an idea that time = progress. There are influential and powerful people alive today who would reverse any of these trends if it meant money in their pocket.

  • To be fair, Rust is far from the hardest language I've learned. That honor would go to C++. I'm actually really enjoying it. But I'd maybe compare to learning english. You can learn all the funky grammar rules, the funky spelling, the history that went behind all that funkiness. But it's filled with so many idioms that are just kinda baked in and not written down that it can get confusing fairly easily.

  • I've had a few challenging moments for sure but I'm really loving it. I come javascript mostly with a fair amount of ruby experience, and C++ dating back to college. C++ was by far more difficult to learn, but this was like 15 years ago and learning resources have changed drastically since then. To me Rust feels like low level Ruby. I think it takes some good DX cues from Ruby.
