If your only use case is to rip CDs or whatever, any USB with more than a couple GB can act as a live disk, which basically lets you boot directly into linux from the USB. Installed packages don't persist so maybe you can do some research to find a distro that has what you need built in. I'm 99% one exists that suits exactly your needs. I've literally just spent the last week installing and trying out different distros and Linux Mint is the best for set it and forget style linux.

I like seeing ambitious projects like this, even if it doesn't work out in the long run. It's good learning, and for the same reason we need more options for a browser, more options for an OS only makes things better for everyone. Also Pop_OS is a pretty cool project if you can ignore the drama lol. I'm excited to see what Cosmic desktop ends up being

Check out Greg Johnston's interview with Primeagen. Greg's just an awesome dude all around. I just hope one day there comes a solution for the large bundle sizes associated with wasm frameworks

I agree. I think the fact that it’s built around multi cursor edition and a selection -> action paradigm as opposed to vim’s action -> selection is going to become the norm slowly and surely.

Oh, awesome suggestion. I actually just went ahead and cut up one of my nvmes to play around with different distros, trying out refind to allow booting into whichever.

I think it depends on the PG (patient gamer) but I think the philosophy doesn't extend to indie games as much as big budget AAA titles that get pushed out half baked and only end up being good years down the line after they've finally actually finished it. We have patience for indie devs. It's not a zero sum thing. Like, I'll hop on the next ratchet and clank game, no way I'm waiting a year to play it. But for games that I don't care so much about that start out as ps5 exclusives, I always wait for the PC port
