  • Yes, I think it does, but thats how docker-compose works with docker anyways so it's a closer experience. I think if you're using docker-compose files you sorta want that docker-like experience no?

I get where you're coming from though. It would be nice to run docker-compose files completely rootless with podman-compose.

  • Okay, nvm. Security checks work even with the proxy. It turns out Nextcloud is just picky with some of the fields. For example, I had set X-Robots-Tag to SWAG's recommended default of noindex, nofollow, nosnippet, noarchive, but Nextcloud expects only noindex, nofollow.

  • Thanks for the suggestion! It gave me the idea to try setting the connection profile's IPv6 setting to either Link Local or Ignored. Both those options, along with the ::/0 in AllowedIPs, seem to work according to ipleak.net, but I am unsure what the bigger ramifications of this change are.

  • To be honest, I think those are more guidelines than anything else. Most distros are largely the same in terms of overall performance. Perhaps some might have a bigger memory footprint due to more applications installed out of the box, but that's about it.

  • That's exactly the kind of hardware that'd get a big a boost in performance by switching to Linux. Go for it! I have so many old machines that have essentially gained a second life when I installed Linux on them. You can't go wrong with either an Ubuntu, Debian, or Fedora-based distro. I am not sure what 2Ghz requirement you're talking about, but I've run Fedora on potato class hardware so I think it will be fine.

If you start getting used to Linux after a while, I'd actually suggest Arch because of how slim of a system you can achieve with it and how fast in general it usually is. Of course, if this is your first time using Linux definitely try out some of the friendlier distros first!

  • Yep, the X method has served me well for decades. I honestly don't understand why some people insist on slathering on thermal paste like they were making a cake. An X and nice even pressure while you're screwing down the heatsink is all you need.

  • I clean my earbuds everytime I finish wearing them and it's honestly become such a chore. Having hardware designs that are easily cleanable are so important. I really wish earbud manufacturers would stop putting hard right angles and recessed charging contacts into the body of earbuds because they just attract hard to clean gunk. Also, eartips should be round bulbs instead of a mushroom shape, that way it doesn't accumulate gunk on the underside of the eartips, requiring you to tediously invert the mushroom just to get all the earwax out.
