  • I don't get why people bringing up AMD issues always get down voted. The bias is real. I too am getting constant freezes with my Radeon 680M that have gone unresolved for almost a year.

Quite a few people are experiencing this so it isn't an isolated issue: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/amd/-/issues/2220

  • Modern ads aren't simply bits of text or animated gifs anymore. They're full tracking platforms that rely on analyzing a person's usage in order to deliver them targeted ads. It's much harder to do that over RSS.

  • And they don’t track every minute thing you do

You sure about that? I just bought my mom a new iPad Air yesterday and the setup process was maddeningly privacy invading. Name, address, and phone number just to install anything from the Apple store. Both me and my mom, who's not tech savvy at all, thought it was crazy the amount of info we had to put in just to get a usable device.

and act like malware to try to make you use their products.

There was also so many preloaded garbage apps installed by default. Why are apps like Measure there? Yes when I want to measure something...I reach for an iPad...instead of...you know...a tape measure... Just because they're first party apps doesn't make this okay. Also, Apple's ecosystem is famous for vendor lock-in.

They may not be as blatant about it as Google is, but they're every bit as bad tbh.

  • It's been 4 years, that's one hell of a lucky streak. Eh, the UI is fine, way better than syncthing's anyways and its client has working partial sync. I get that you have hate for Nextcloud, but personally I am not about the mess of disparate tools in your post just to get something equivalent to Nextcloud tbh. To each their own.

  • I take it you've never seen the amount of crap that gets put into journalctl then. I've never encountered a Nextcloud crash with the amount of data I have. It could have been a deployment issue on your end. My docker containers have been running fine.

  • Eh, every page has a bunch of Javascript errors and logs. That's normal. So far it hasn't impacted my usage at all and I've got 450GB gigabytes stored in a Nextcloud instance that's lasted 4-years and migrated between 3 separate machines.

  • I don't really see the better experience to be honest. Sure, AMD is a lot better on laptops, but on desktops I still prefer Nvidia. DLSS, raytracing, Optix, CUDA are all killer features that I need that AMD doesn't really have an answer for. Sure Wayland is great, but it doesn't outweigh the disadvantages of not having those technologies.

Meanwhile both my AMD GPUs (Vega 64 and Radeon 680M) have been crash happy with gfx timeouts and ring0 errors.
