  • I feel like all public servants (including cops) ought to have public liability insurance, where money would end up coming from in these situations, which then the employer (police department, other department) needs to pay, the employee is aware of, and is part of their renumeration (i.e. the more their premiums cost, the less they're making), making idiots more of a financial liability to themselves.

Quite quickly you're going to have people acting as responsibly as possible if you're insurance premiums then go up when you act like a moron.

Obviously this would require protections so that people don't end up being screwed over by insurance premiums, but still, this seems to be an issue in public service all over the world, no consequences because the tax payer just ends up footing the settlement, and the public servant goes on their merry way.

  • I don't like Tyson because I feel he preaches an inaccurate version of the scientific philosophy. So many times I hear him saying things along the lines of absolute certainty, because it's SCIENCE.

Where, we of the true faith, preach: the evidence indicates that this is the most likely to be true, or at least, this model makes predictions about the world more reliably than any other we currently have.

    Amen.

  • While I know that these days, bugs in code can cause real-world harm (personal info leaks, superannuation records lost, lol google), I find it humorous to think of the equivalent, even worse outcomes in my discipline (chemical/process engineering).

"Didn't do any checks, fuck it, I know this calculation is fire 🔥"

    Later: 🔥🔥💥

  • The number of people he's said he hates or called names because they've either supported the Harris campaign, or spoken against his, seems to be quite a lot.

Baffles me that anyone could look on and think, "hmm yes, this guy seems socially intelligent", is beyond me.

  • How long do patents last for anyway? Pokemon being caught in balls must be many, many decades old by this point.

  • They've started serving ads when you skip backwards. Drives me fucking nuts.

I was willing to use the mobile app with ads because the interface is slightly less buggy.

Ad blocking on mobile web it is for me now 👍

  • This is what I was thinking (but the younger age is younger)

  • In other countries, not only would the voter suppression be illegal, but racial hate speech would also land this fucker in jail.

  • Our of curiosity, and because I couldn't immediately find anything. Is MoveOn actively trying to change the voting system itself?

  • Unpopular option, but the free tram zone is worthless, and subsidising people who live in the city.

Either let's make PT entirely free, or get rid of it.

Such a pain when you're trying to get your team home at night (and they only run every 20 mins or so), and it's chokablock with people taking the tram 1 or 2 stops within the CBD.

Or they really ought to do something about frequency into the evening, maybe get some teams just for shuttling within the CBD, and give trams priority at lights.

You can almost walk as fast as you can tram in the CBD (not quite, but still).

    Current set up kinda sucks.

  • I don't think any zoning laws anywhere in Australia would allow for this on public roads.

Happy to be corrected, but this shit takes it's toll on everyone else's wellbeing.

When I lived about 5 km from the city (Melbourne), I'd hear some arsehole (cars, as well as bikes) ripping it down the road at least every 20 minutes, all fucking day.

I do not give a shit what your hobbies are, but they had better not be giving me heart disease...

These fuckers deserve to have their bikes/cars confiscated for putting on illegal mods on the second offence. Not per vehicle, per fucking lifetime.

You get one chance, then you had better start keeping receipts so you never have an illegal mod ever again...

  • Eating your offspring seems terribly energy inefficient

  • You mean, as an emotional support vehicle?

  • I'm on the youngest side of the millennials, when do I inherit, since I often like to phone in, as these days if you want something fixed quick, you're better off calling (in Australia at least).

Much better waiting on hold for 10 mins than who knows how many business days before the customer service inevitably copy pastes something from the FAQ that doesn't resolve your problem.

Also, I like to call friends, on the phone. And use SMS 0_0

Again, when can I get my inheritance, thanks haha

  • Don't forget to tip them!

  • A video which puts all the arguments better than I ever could: https://youtu.be/jN7mSXMruEo

But the notion you can only have high clearance by making your hood so massive to the point you can't see your child as you run them over in your own driveway, doesn't make sense.

I'd strongly encourage you to give the video a go.

These trucks are now infesting my streets to (Australia) to a lesser degree. It's an arms race that really needs to be stopped. I hope you consider some of the points made in the video.

  • Honestly, good on you so much for sharing. The fact you're not ashamed and willing to share could save someone from the same attack, and as others have pointed out, even the most security minded of us can have lapses in judgement.

I'm really glad you weren't screwed in the end.

  • Power to you, don't let the food snobs stop you!
