  • You do you, but this is a big no-no from my point of view.

For example separating the prefix m from mm would be rather confusing, and look like another unit.

You can, however, put 10^x wherever you like 👍

  • Can I ask why, though? I'm also an engineer and I just never spell it out, if I can avoid it (so far, luckily, haven't had push back since I'm on delivery and not proposals or anything like that.)

To me, it's just more annoying to read it as words, and no matter what you do, mistakes can still happen, including when it's spelled out.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Touche, yeah, I'd totally be on board if everyone just uses $3.5*10⁚ or $3.5e9. Good luck getting it catch on outside eng/science circles though haha

  • Oh damn, that is some nails on a chalkboard level stuff.

  • Mine was Pil-ates.

Hey, it's not our fault English just borrows and never adapts the spelling. Or updates spelling as pronunciations change.

    English spelling is atrocious.

  • Yeah that's fair. I personally prefer the first one, but I can see how it makes sense to not use digits there.

+1 ∆ for you (change my view points, a thing from r/changemyview)

  • I'll allow billion, but personally my preference is using powers of 10 or unit prefixes.

Just I'm not gonna be mad about the newspaper writing 3.5 billion dollars.

  • Only if you have a unit.

    273 GW 👍

Else, looks kind weird, to my eyes anyway. But fair point haha

  • Yeah I'm with you on this. I'm not sure if this was clear in the meme (I am an engineer), but I think the style guides can go shove it. I'm always going to write the symbols, not spell it out.

  • Hahaha, of course, it makes so much sense now

  • Yeah haha, this is why it came to my mind. In this case it's a title, so not really for the purpose of being used as a number.

    Though, I suppose I didn't specify this

  • A tale as old as time, annoyingly.

See plebs vs patricians literal thousands of years ago :(

  • our landlord decides to jack the rent up for our current place every 12 months by absurd amounts because "its what the market says". Bull fucking shit you greedy fucks.

This is how I found out the "rental reviews" the department of justice does in Victoria are an absolute joke. If everyone colludes to raise rents by 20-30% 2 years in a row (as they did), then you're shit out of luck.

They even use advertised listings in their calculations, which is an even bigger joke.

Canberra are the only ones (that I know of) who have something vaguely okay. 2% above inflation per year. No more.

Absolute joke of a "strong" housing market we find ourselves...

  • When I was around 14 I tried listening to the bible on audio book, couldn't even make it past genesis (or the one after?) because of how terrible the writing was.

Like, bible, I don't want to hear the entire fucking lineage of every single character you're introducing. Appendices would have been much appreciated.

Never tried again because I was an edgy 14 year old atheist who was only doing it to be able to "win" arguments on the topic.

Ahh to be a hormonal teenager...

  • Society has reinforced that women should be passive, and even after much progress on that front in general, somehow this still applies in some people's minds.

    I would guess.

No biggie though, depends what you personality traits you yourself are looking for, if being proactive is one of them, then I guess you haven't missed out 😅

And if you weren't interested and the friend is yelling at you angrily, that's mega questionable. Last I checked, no one is obligated to be interested romantically in anyone else...

  • Sounds like you're living just like the rest of us friend :) Always good remembering that the person who thinks of your awkward moments the most is yourself, and just not dwell on them too long

    Have yourself a lovely day!

  • Oh I'm not saying they're not loud, or don't exist (I can only speak directly on my perceptions in Australia though). Additionally, there are also a much larger group of people who I think are greedy, or mislead (in my opinion), but the straight up conspiracy theorist crazies?

I think it's not a stretch to say that's more mainstream in the USA, and I cannot pinpoint an obvious reason at a cursory look. Even if the education system is as bad as claimed, surely, the God fearing wouldn't believe the democrats can control the wrath of said god.

But yeah, things sure are getting wild in the rest of the anglosphere too haha, so touche

  • RCV in single member electorates is pretty meh, and yeah RCV in general has its issues. But saying it's "slightly better" than FPTP is a MASSIVE understatement.

Change begets change, don't be against changing to something much better, just because it isn't perfect.

  • This is absolutely baffling being from practically any other English speaking country.

I mean, we have our share of crazies, but they're a tiny proportion.

It's one thing to doubt the well established climate science (very frustrating), but it's another thing to actually believe humans can precisely control the weather.

It's extremely troubling knowing these people exist, and can vote in the most powerful country on earth.

    😬

Something, something if you believe in things without evidence (religion) it's not actually that surprising. And we (Australia) are much less religious than you. Though, this is certainly my bias talking.

  • I fundamentally disagree (on a social level). Social dance mfers don't even start until 9:30PM, most people rock up at 10:30PM

This some oppressive shit if you want to be up at 7 if that's your body clock.

    I want to sleep hombre.

I want to be up with the sun friend.

Where are my 6PM socials. Hurt.
