  • How did the sub total become $53.96?

Breadsticks and cinnamon sticks we $27.96??

Otherwise, did they do hidden fees in the subtotal, on top of the already hidden fees?

Y'all need some better laws in the states.

There is (off the top of my head) only three types of extra charges in Australia for consumers:

    1. transaction fees (provided the lowest you can possibly pay, even with transaction fees, is advertised. i.e. if you accept card only the minimum fee is included in your advertised price)
    2. delivery fees (but strictly speaking you ought to advertise "+delivery fees" in your listed price, and only if it's variable. And finally,
    3. surcharges based on time. But again, you need to advertise this prominently ahead of payment.

If I were really splitting hairs some restaurants and cafes that do weekend surcharges reeeeally ought to put it on the front cover of their menus, not just at the till.

Anyway, what you have in comparison is maddening.

Taxes? Yeah, that should be in the prices. "Fees"?? Yeah, that's part of the price, bud.

    Absolute yikes.

  • I'm always horrified when people talk about how it's not that easy to pass your driving test (Victoria Australia).

Yikes, I hardly drive, rent a car when I need one, and I'm considered "good" by some, because I passed on the first try? I feel like the barrier to entry is far too low.

Though, such is life when you allow the city to expand to the ridiculous levels it has without adequate public transport...

  • I'm gonna be generous and assume the original commenter meant "Aboriginals on average have significantly worse outcomes compared to non-aboriginal Australians due to historical persecution"

  • This what we would call false advertising in my country.

    You can't write: "NO ADS!*"

"*actually, maybe some ads, as a treat"

That's just completely negating the headline claim

  • This is why I think it's heinous presidential pardons were ever allowed to be on the books. Must have reminded the founders of the kingly powers they sought to replace?

How did no one ever consider that you can do as many crimes as you want, so long as the president will pardon you?

    Like????

Really dumb, if you ask me.

  • This is why I'm glad we don't directly elect our head of government in Australia.

People bitch "oh we've had 5 prime minister's in 5 years!". Better that than a president that can only be stopped by 2/3rds of the senate.

That and Australian cabinet members (who are the executives of the various departments), who can be removed by the prime minister, at least are somewhat covered by the fact the prime minister only has this power while a simple majority of the parliament allows it.

I'm not claiming we've got democracy figured out over here, and suffer from a lot of the same shit as the US because of capitalism and corruption.

But hell, US-style elected constitutional monarchy is wild.

And we're still under an actual monarchy lol

  • This is what small government is. I have no idea how people convince themselves that right-wing libertarianism isn't an absolute joke of an ideology. It's just replacing positions answerable to elected officials with unelected oligarchs.

  • Overtime is a type of penalty rate, these are the others:

    • weekends
    • public holidays
    • overtime
    • late nights shifts or
    • early morning shifts.

There's penalty to the employer for asking to work these times, in the form of more money. As it should be

  • I like different coffee for different purposes. Instant coffee is mostly made from commodity coffee and blends in Robusta (which I don't like, personally).

That said, in a pinch, or if I can't be bothered with the whole shebang of a pour over or espresso. Mix in a little milk and sweetener and it's quite enjoyable.

That all being said, this is some mega MAGA copium they're pumping out.

  • It 100% will cause your apple account to get banned.

There was a fraudulent charge on my card once to iTunes, so I got it reversed by the bank, because it was fraud.

This banned my account and I had to go to apple support when months later I discovered my account was banned. They give you one chance.

So yeah, you gotta ask them first if you don't wanna get banned. But you should basically say, cancel my subscription, please and thank you, I'm not required to use your device to do so if you let me sign up without a device.

I suspect in multiple countries they would have to comply under consumer law, and I know for a fact they would be obligated to on Australia.

  • Ah righto, no worries!

  • Me too, the second one shows up, or PixelFed gets e2ee implemented, I would seriously start asking people to join.

Until then, what's the point? (Unless you want to share publically)
