I always thought the British got a slightly worse rap than they deserved there. When the Ottoman empire collapsed, things were chaotic to say the least. Rising nationalism in an area where ethnicities are all over the place. A pocket here, a few villages there. Political systems that had been in place for a thousand years disintegrating. Large groups of nomads who are notoriously difficult to fit into ordered nation states.

Huge demographic shifts underway. People tend to overlook just how much more crowded the world is now than it was in 1920. What worked in 1890 was a nonstarter in 1990.

I don't think any line on that map would have substantially changed things one way or another.

I worked with some people from Chile once, and they ALL loved rush. there was like 30 of them, they had in common where they came from, and rush. Like it's a thing. Even the ones whose English was so-so knew every word to every song. I miss jamming with em. Fucking epic air drums!

Mike Duncan is fire! I really enjoyed all of it. But his "revolutions" podcast on early modern england was really interesting.

I particularly enjoyed an episode (later on in the French revolution) that talked about the Paris fish wives march on the Bastille.

Mint. It's not sexy. But it always just works. Never had an update break anything. I've got an Nvidia card, which ppl said was notorious for not working with Linux, it just works. The installer just reached out and grabbed the appropriate drivers, so easy. Have yet to have a steam game not work.

10/10 would recommend for anyone.
