  • I'm happy with the 8bitdo controllers I've picked up. They're great if you like the official controllers, but want something wireless.

  • I'm still salty about not getting an English release of Million Monkeys. On another note, Ape Escape Move was such a missed opportunity. Ape Escape's gameplay was just asking for (preferably optional) motion controls, but instead they made a rail shooter.

  • Some old Archos media players, such as the 605 WiFi, run a locked down Linux according to Wikipedia.

  • It's almost always better to not buy a cheap sex toy. There's no regulation of the industry and many materials in cheaper toys are just straight up dangerous. Here's an article (it's NSFW, there are pictures) that goes over what materials are and aren't safe.

  • My sister had me name the wi-fi extender as "Papa John's Pizza and Abortions". My mother's side of the family is Catholic. We're still waiting for one of them to notice it

  • I use long cooking spoons to move (or knock down) objects until they're in my reach. I'm five feet tall, so a lot of things are out of my reach.

  • Etrian Odyssey

I tried the demo for the fourth one and just didn't really like or get it. A couple years later Atlus announced Persona Q (which has mostly the same gameplay as Etrian Odyssey) so, I decided to give the demo another try and it just clicked this time. I have no idea why I didn't like it the first time around.

  • All you have to do is download the APK from the F-Droid website and enable installing from third-party/unknown sources in the Settings app (some versions of Android ask automatically when you try to open the APK). I also recommend disabling unknown sources for your browser once you're done as a security measure.

  • One title that instantly comes to mind for me is Genesis of Aquarion. I admittedly never got very far into it because it's really awkward to watch with other people around (looking at you mecha combining scenes). I actually really only checked out the show because I heard the OP in Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX.

Anyway, the song is also called Genesis of Aquarion and is by AKINO.

  • This might not be as old as you're looking for, but there was a really good homebrew painting program for DS called Colors. It even had pressure sensitivity on DS and DS Lite (but not DSi or 3DS consoles because their touch screens just didn't have that feature).

  • The weirdest fetish I've ever seen was knee inflation and as a furry and former deviantArt user I've seen some pretty weird stuff.

  • The place this happened isn't actually a thrift store, it's an antique mall. Though, to be fair, a lot of the products did come from thrift stores. Here's a more detailed article.

Once I saw it was Lee county I knew the exact place it happened and whose booth had the skull. My mother is actually one of the vendors there.

    Edit: Fixed a formatting error.

  • I commented this on another thread, but my theory is that it might be something like FedEx 705.

  • Napple Tale: Arisa in Daydream
A game for the Dreamcast that had a primarily female dev team. It was exclusive to Japan, but a translation patch was released a couple years ago.

    Atelier series
There are a bunch of these. They’re RPGs based heavily around crafting. Actually, they basically pioneered crafting in RPGs.

    Um Jammer Lammy
A spin-off of Parappa the Rapper. Lammy has only 15 minutes to make it to her band’s performance, but getting there won’t be easy.
Note that Stage 6 is censored in the North American release. Also as a bonus, completing the game unlocks Parappa mode, with new versions of every song after Stage 1.

    Athena
Stick with the original arcade version. The NES port is infamously bad.

    Psycho Soldier
A spin-off of Athena (sort of) starring Athena’s descendant/reincarnation (it depends on the writer), Athena Asamiya (and Sie Kensou as player 2’s character). Athena (and Kensou) would later become staples of the King of Fighters series. The game is notable for being the first game with a vocal soundtrack.

    Baraduke
An arcade title from Namco. Being on this list is actually a pretty big spoiler because the fact that the protagonist is a woman isn’t revealed until the end of the game. Now that probably sounds like a ripoff of Metroid, but here’s the thing: Baraduke did it first.

    Koudelka
An obscure horror RPG for the PlayStation.
The game is an unhappy compromise between the creator and the dev team. One side wanting to make a survival horror game and the other going for something like Final Fantasy VII. I’ve never actually gotten very far in this one because I hate the battle system. Also, this game has connections to the later Shadow Hearts series.

Literally every game in the Otome genre
Probably not what you’re looking for, but technically fits your criteria of having a female protagonist.

I might add more to this post if I can think of something else.

  • The Wii U wasn’t even remotely as financially successful as its predecessor, the Wii, so Nintendo didn’t put in as much effort. The Wii was a big hit with the casual market as well as Nintendo’s usual customers. Unfortunately, the Wii U failed to live up to expectation for a variety of reasons. One example is that much of the casual market didn’t see the need to upgrade (I suspect a lot of them, being new to gaming, didn’t really understand that the Wii U was a new console).

  • I know you said no PokĂ©mon, but what about Digimon? I think something in the Vital Bracelet family might fit your needs. It’s a watch with a character that transforms into more powerful forms based on your activity. There is a bit of an investment since you’ll need to buy the device itself and additional cards for more characters. Another thing to note is that all models except for the Vital Hero are (technically) in Japanese (there’s actually very little text because the menus are mostly icon-based). It also has a companion app called Vital Bracelet Arena, which can serve a storage for characters and allows for battling characters with other people (there no way for players to communicate with each other, so you don’t have to worry about your kid talking to strangers). If this sounds interesting, then I highly recommend checking out Humulos for more information.
