  • Honestly, if I found out one of my friends saw me this way I'd rather they just get out of my life.

  • I quit smoking for a bit over a year at one point, and it was difficult. It definitely took the development of new coping skills and it was hard not to reach for something in those moments when I wanted to sort of fill the gap not smoking left behind. It was also super disorienting.

But probably the hardest part was deciding to quit and finding support for it that wasn't full on anti-weed. I did find a substance abuse recovery discord that helped in a non-judgemental way, but most of the people encouraging me to stick with quitting were pretty black and white about it.

It didn't make me feel sick the way quitting tobacco did, though, or leave me with that strained feeling of chemical dependence.

Eventually I started smoking again, deciding I liked the positive effects more than I didn't like the occasional negative effects. It's nice to know that I can quit, though, if I decide it isn't worth it.

  • You just described AOL in the 90s.

  • I guess if you have unlimited disposable income, but for me improving my experience significantly enough that I notice how pleasant is every day is plenty.

Not being able to enjoy what you have because something better might exist isn't a hobby, it's neurosis.

  • I think so. It clicks the button, it just won't hold it. And the precision mode dpi adjustment thing doesn't work at all.

  • Honestly, if Solaar supported the dpi toggle and remapping my extra keys on my MX Ergo, I might be using Linux daily. But it doesn't. So I can't. :(

  • I block every bot and every bot spam community. We don't need fake shit here. This isn't Reddit.

  • I think the effect here is more good than bad. Nobody wants to post to a community that's just bot spam. You're trying to skip the small community phase in favor of faking being a previous community with bots, but that phase is essential for community development and cohesion.

  • I honestly wish the major instances would ban repost bots. We don't need to literally copy Reddit to Lemmy. It's just polluting it.

  • I am so sick of reading half-articles stuck behind paywalls.

  • When I first bought my keychron and I got into watching all these videos and everything I felt like I was going to start falling down a rabbit hole too. But keyboards are expensive, and every time I type on mine I get more satisfaction out if it than I've ever gotten from a keyboard in my life. Glad to have learned what I need from they keyboard community, but, once you've got your setup, why keep dumping money into it?

  • Looks like a shitload of people accessing it several times a day, some watching it like hawks, and an entire genre of Reddit refugees who've taken to advertising it on a daily basis.

  • Apes together still giving Reddit traffic.

It's like writing anti-walmart propaganda on a thousand one dollar bills and then spending them all at Walmart.

  • This is the equivalent of buying and burning oil in protest of climate change.

  • Yep. Lots of stuff. Livejournal, Myspace, AOL, Digg.

Protesting platforms that feed on engagement by engaging with those platforms is very silly. You won't fix them.

If you think Reddit turned space back on thinking people wouldn't use it to protest and to promote alternatives, I feel like you haven't been paying attention. They feed on rage, it keeps their numbers up.

What they can't feed on is letting them die because we don't need or care about them anymore. Like Mab at the end of the 90s Merlin miniseries.

  • Stop making daily Reddit ads you shill!

  • Merry Christmas ya filthy animal!

  • I'd argue that coming to other platforms begging people to go to Reddit is more impactful than your own personal browsing even if you hadn't changed your habits at all. It's just ragebait and Reddit knows it. Stop playing into their hand.

  • If it was just Musk, it would be a lot easier to chalk up to one idiot. But with so many idiots acting in concert? That sounds like somebody's in their ears. Probably without them realizing it.

  • Ew, some cop took a sharpie to their cat. :(
