  • I think a live boot cd or trying to use an integrated gpu, if available, (both I saw already suggested) are better steps but you could also try blacklisting nvidia and use nouveau. Could point to those drivers if it works ok.

  • Aerith is what immediately popped into my mind.

Looking back on it, she was a pretty one dimensional love interest. But teenager me didn't see that. I was attached to this character. I cared. And she died. Not something I expected from a game, and it wrecked me a bit.

  • I use mpd-sima for autoplay functionality. It would in turn require using mpd or mopidy.

It queries last.fm for recommended artists and tries to find a match in your playlist. It works, but honestly it's not great. I don't think it's any fault of the software. Last.FM doesn't know your library and seems to return limited results, so it's like a game of battleship actually getting a hit. (Not quite that bad, but the analogy holds water, overall)

  • Firefox or some flavor of Firefox. Maybe keep a secondary chromium based browser around if there's something you NEED that doesn't work in Firefox for some reason. That said though, I've been Chrome-free for some time with no issue.

  • I mirror your concerns but as long as there's money to be made, the thing that makes money will continue to happen. Advertising is part of that, and if they can harvest our data to target ads, they will.

We won't win the fight against money. What we can do is block/avoid advertisements, avoid (as much as possible) services that are known for this behavior, support services that are known to respect privacy, and educate those that are receptive.

  • Yeah, I played a little bit earlier today. I'd like to say that the dated looking graphics and poor ui aren't things I care about, but apparently I do a bit. Still, I'll give it a little more time. I do like the premise.

  • As others have said, just use a trustworthy VPN. I use and recommend mullvad.

All you really need is to not be low hanging fruit. Plenty of people out there pirating without knowing how to obfuscate themselves that are easier targets.

    Edit: Clarity.

  • A killswitch in the client is handy, but you can also do this with firewall rules. Allow on the vpn tunnel, block on your network interface except the ip(s)/port to reach your vpn. Perhaps also allow on your local network.

I do it this way on a headless system.

  • I'd never heard of Project Gorgon until it was recommended to me on here like, yesterday? Funny that it came up again.

I spun up the demo this morning. It feels pretty rough around the edges, but I'll give it a little more time.

I also looked at Palia. Looks like a relaxing game!

  • In my very limited (a couple of weeks) experience there, it's not that bad... except for when it is.

For smaller roads, traffic will kind of go around you as long as you keep a steady pace. For bigger roads, that's not feasible and it never really stops. I had to wait... I don't know maybe 10 minutes to cross a road like that once.

  • The FOSS or bust part of me says to use something else. Vendor lockin is Apple's modus operandi.

The realistic part of me knows things are rarely so simple. So I hope for a solution for this for you too. And anything that circumvents Apple tickles me besides that.

  • Can they censor Lemmy? Highly unlikely. It's decentralized and not owned by any one entity. Can they censor it from you? Maybe. Governments exerting control over internet access of their citizens is old hat

Regardless, like others have said, don't assume you're anonymous here.

  • Ultima Online comes to mind, which is strange because it wasn't something I played much of. I know it still exists, and there's Shroud of the Avatar as well but I'd specifically like something that still has an isometric view and doesn't constrain by character class but otherwise has more modern adaptations.
