  • That's just on Indiana Jones and bad optimization. There are still plenty of other, newer games that should run perfectly fine. Of course the big, chunky games that are marketed as "Look at how graphically intense this is! Look at the ray tracing!" are going to run poorly.

    Though I will absolutely agree that a lot of studios are throwing optimization out the window when developing new games, just relying on the latest hardware to power through it.

  • Sure, but the $ is signifying the following numbers refer to money. And people can write it differently than they say it. I will say "June 1st" much, much more often than "the 1st of June", but I will also almost always write it "01 June

    <YEAR>

    ".

    But the reason it is much more common in the USA to write dates as "June 1,

    <YEAR>

    " is because that is how it is often spoken here. That doesn't need to be consistent across other speech and writing patterns, it's just how it developed. Probably goes back to the printing press like a lot of the other oddities in writing here...

  • You don't know that the kid hasn't already told the mom about the accident. It's not like she can come pick the kid up, it was her car that was crashed. Relying on a parent and asking them for help in a time of need doesn't mean the kid isn't also going to take responsibility. But the parent saying that fishing is more important is absolutely ludicrous. Sure, maybe the dad is too far away to be able to help at the moment, but he said he's too busy to even talk (yet not busy enough to prevent sending those texts).

  • I fully understand the issues with the logistics. I get that the delivery people are often held to unreasonable standards and forced to insane expectations of quotas.

    But, when there are 3 cars in the driveway, the lights are on in the house, and it's the middle of the afternoon, it is absolutely the delivery person's responsibility if they don't even knock. They don't even need to stick around more than 5 seconds, at least actually make the attempt.

  • I wish my delivery person used the doorbell or knocked. I've watched out the window as they walked up, put the "no one home" sticker on the door, and started walking away before I stepped out and told them I was there for the package.

  • Yeah, but reclaiming "sub" would just be an example of language being dynamic. Unless someone is calling the communities "subreddits" I don't think there should be this divisive issue about it.

    Use sub if you want, or not if you dislike the term.

  • Typically, yes, since they are meant to be more "modular" in nature and let you sync up 4-5. But I'm not familiar with all the varieties of commercial cards out there and didn't want to dismiss the possibility of a longer one existing.

    But I don't know if any consumer card that is so big only one or two cases fit it. Sure, some of them are so big that you need a fairly large case, but for example the ASUS 5090 Astral is one of the larger 5090s, and is 358mm long. The Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO RGB case can fit a GPU up to 455mm in length. The Lian Li Lancool 217 (a case on the medium to smaller side for full ATX) can fit up to 380mm in length. Tight, but not 1mm tight. The Fractal Design Meshify 2 (ATX case, not mini) can fit up to 445mm in length with the front fans in place.

    Unless the comment poster is specifically looking for SFF cases, I don't know what is causing the difficulty.

    Although, clearance for GPU height is becoming more of an issue, so that might be what is referred to for the 1mm clearance. In that case, there are still options out there but it is much more difficult and some require vertical mounting.

    Edit: changed OP to comment poster and added caveat

  • Honestly, this is 100% the solution for this problem, especially for sharing with a child.

    Now, the issue of having a "license" and rights to play a game, vs actually owning the game is still a valid point of contention.

  • The microwave, because my roommates insist on having a model that beeps every 30 seconds after it finishes cooking so you don't forget you had food in there. They still forget, though. It just gets on my nerves while I try to wash some dishes while waiting for the microwave to finish, or if I'm using it as part of prepping while cooking.

  • The reasoning I moved from Windows to Linux was this right here.

    If I'm going to be fighting with Windows anyway, because of the registry giving me issues, then the drawback of "but Linux hard! You have to configure things!" was moot.
