  • I'm sorry but this is erasure of the very real homophobia these glam metal bands experienced as part of later backlash.

And the guys in Skid Row tell of going out in public in the late eighties with “their hair stacked to the sky” and fighting with rednecks who called them removeds (Konow 296). While I never had to duke it out with anyone because of my long hair (the extent of my glam look), I did have similar experiences in the real world. Once, when with my mom at Huntington House, a now-defunct furniture store, a female sales clerk came up behind us and asked, “Can I help you ladies?” And on another occasion, when looking at clothes at Joslins in the Westminster Mall, a woman approached me from behind while remarking, “What do we have here? A lady looking at men’s pants!”

  • Yep, just search for country + banks for expats. Typically a lot of the countries well known for financial services have banks which make it very easy to open a bank account online. They will require you to upload some ID for verification, and provide tax details. Expats (rich white immigrants) do this all the time.

You are not limited to just Canada / Europe either. E.g. Australia: Macquarie Bank Singapore: OCBC Hong Kong: HSBC

  • No, consumption taxes (such as VAT) are generally considered to be regressive, because the rich spend less on consumption relative to their income.

In almost all countries, the top income decile was estimated to have paid a share of their income that is only 60% of what the bottom half pays in consumption taxes.

  • This is eerily similar to the disinformation campaigns that ran during Australia's bushfires. So many people were parroting the lie that somehow the Greens with no majority in government sneakily introduced "green tape" that prevented the firefighters from their usual hazard reduction burns. In reality, firefighters were prevented from doing hazard reduction burns due to the increasingly small window to safely do so due to climate change. The situation was so frustrating that the Rural Fire Service had to specifically address all the "bUt whAt aBouT HaZarD REduCtiOn bUrNs" during a press conference

  • Their voting system is somehow the worst of both worlds. It's FPTP for rural seats, but proportional for inner city seats. So conservatives end up sweeping the rural seats, and also steal seats from inner city seats that would have gone to progressives if they have an FPTP system across the whole country.

  • dw I got u fam.

    1. Tangyuan Soup - watch the rice based tangyuan slowly melt into rest of the white soup
    2. Tofu skin soup - watch the light dried tofu skin expand. Is especially impressive with a clear soup base
    3. Egg and bean curd sweet soup (tang sui) - watch as the thin pieces of bean curds swirl around the much heavy and thicker boiled egg
    4. Rice noodles soup (various) - watch as different ingredients seem to bounce unexpectedly, as the rice noodles are fully transparent when submerged
    5. Tom Kha soup - watch as the green curry based soup emulsion slowly separates into a dazzling array of red chilli oil, dark green of herbs, and the light green of the soup base as it cools down
