  • It wasn't since 2008, it was more or less since Reaganomics and the neoliberal push in the west around the same time. It's been the same shit ever since, and it's 100% bipartisan. In fact, the worst offender since Reagan was definitely Slick Willy Clinton, who killed Glass-Steagall and introduced the telecommunications act of 1996, allowing for consolidation of every media empire and telecom network, which severely limited broadcast journalism's investigative power. It's been nothing but mega mergers and 1% fuckery ever since. The last chance was Occupy, anyone else remember the lack of coverage? I was in Europe at the time and had to watch fucking RT to see anyone talking about it. They will never let that happen again.

What most of us need to remember, is that they never let it happen the first time around either.

  • That's probably because the EU generally isn't run by a two party system, where both parties are actually just center-right neoliberals. If you want EU style protections, you have to actually fight for it, like pretty much every European country did.

  • Ad everything needs to die. It should straight up become illegal to advertise anything other than for people who opt-in. If your product, movie or service is good, it'll get popular through word of mouth.

  • I would pay $20 per month for a curated list of subscriptions to various news sources. The key word here is curated. If I subscribe to a news site, I don't want to hear about celebrity gossip. If I subscribe to a new music page, I don't want to see Beyonce on it. If I sign up for arthouse movie news, I don't want to hear about Pixar.

We've completely removed the idea of curators because "gatekeeping" and now we are stuck with what amounts to a corporate payola funded by the biggest players in the game.

  • This is the sorta shit that will likely be in the EUs sights soon. Installing applications nobody asked for because of the carrier? That sounds fucking insanely invasive. It's like Adidas installing a camera in your apartment because you bought a pair of sneakers.

  • I once worked for a company that switched to a subscription model. The entire thing was designed to be as difficult to cancel as possible, so that people would keep paying long after they stopped needing to use the service. The whole thing was fucking disgusting and I kept getting reprimanded for pointing out how insidious it was.

  • IIRC old school animation was only something like 16-20 fps. If you want to see really choppy animation check out the 60s Hulk cartoon. It's more like one of those motion comic books than a cartoon. Then there's always 60s Spider-Man which reused assets constantly, including outright pulling entire episodes from another show and sticking Spidey into them (with hilarious results).

  • lol, okay there. Let's settle down and wipe the Doritos from your face, Chequito. This protest has very little to do with any sort of revolution, and even if it did, your next in line after Macron is currently Le Pen, who would simply make things even worse. So really, I don't think you understand what the fuck you're talking about.
