  • Only the portion of a pension income that is not spent is included as a part of net worth. Given the average expenses of a 60 year old and the piss poor pension of the average schoolteacher, I imagine there would hardly be any money of his pension that isn't spent and is considered part of his net worth, no?

  • You think people use downvoting to change a person's mind? I always felt it was mostly to express disapproval or disagreement.

In this case, I think it's shallow/selfish thinking that leads people to not vote or throw their vote away with a third party vote just so they can smugly say "don't blame me, I didn't vote for Harris/Trump 😏" like it's the most clever thing ever.

As a POC, I can't help but shake at folks like this because it's like they'd rather play these little games when shit gets real rather than ya know, getting real.

  • Why are you treating pro Palestinian people as a monolith? Learn to think critically and realize no protest can somehow rid itself of all shitty people. You're being unreasonable and weirdly condescending because you're older and somehow think it's cool to talk down to folks based on age.

Have I insisted there's no anti-Semitism among the pro-Palestinian movement? No? Then why are you claiming I've insisted there's no anti-Semitism? If I see or hear an anti-Semite in the pro-Palestinian, I would call that person/those people out, as I have in the past. Is that so hard to understand?

Also very weird that you're all "I can picture what you look like". You're being way too presumptuous and that's why you feel so confidently incorrect.

  • BS. They're claiming the AC broke AND the internal temp sensor which is independent of the AC, also broke? Give me a break, this is like listening to a child lie their face off to avoid accountability. The cop left his car off, happens all the time. Notice how the PD's evidence is "just trust me bro" and there's no actual investigation? Yeah, they're full of shit.

  • I'm not sure, but I can say with certainty that increasing temps to 80C with 85% RH isn't any kind of demonstrable way of accurately predicting longevity under realistic conditions.

If I wanted to safety test a car, it would make sense to run a series of conventional car crashes. It wouldn't make sense to drive the car off a cliff and then claim that during testing, the car was proven to be unsafe.

I agree with a lot of other points. Personally, I just find it works better in my brain to have all media (TV shows, eBooks, movies, and music) organized on discs. Same goes with personal photos and videos. For certain things, I keep copies on my PC like photos and music, but for other things that I don't access frequently, I prefer to have them on discs. That said, I do have a HDD backup of everything. I'd love to get another large HDD but just can't justify the $$$.

  • Your form of entitlement involves everyone working around your preferences, and you try to justify it with this weird paternalistic "I know what's best for you" attitude. The higher you go with privacy, the lower the convenience, and at a certain point it goes past the point of what people are realistically prepared to sacrifice.

  • This is just Reddit falling for misinformation. That thread has been debunked so many times. There's a bunch of good YouTube videos covering it but long story short, redditors noticed something odd and immediately assumed it was some huge conspiracy when it wasn't.

And again, that 2018 paper... I encourage people to read it and see just how silly the methodology was.

  • Isn’t almost any keyboard able to last that long?

In theory, yes. In reality... not so much. Bluetooth keyboards are a joke for longevity, and a lot of wired keyboards these days just have piss poor build quality.

I don't think PS/2 inherently has major advantages over USB but as someone who uses a small PC with few USB ports, I appreciate having a PS/2 port available.

  • Compartmentalized optical media is a really nice way of storing things, though. I'm way more likely to listen to an album from start to finish if it's from a CD than a folder of files on my PC. Plus CDs are dirt cheap now more than ever. I get used CDs for like $2-5 each.
