  • We need mixed mode integrated transport networks, trains and trams are great in many situations but they're not ideal everywhere. Current car culture is pretty terrible but self driving electric cars have huge efficiency advantages over other means of transport especially when fleet managed.

I've spent a lot of my life trying to rely on buses and they have a lot of downsides, one thing interesting is the bus Island and bus desert effect - buses end up pointing to corporate shopping areas where retail rents go up because there's more foot traffic, nice little independent shops get priced out and relocate to areas where no one can go because there's no buses... of course you'll say just have more buses but the logistics get really messy, you need everyone to be going to the same places or you're running empty buses. Trains are even harder to determine routes for because you either need it to be able to handle 100% of use cases or to also have a road network.

We absolutely need more rapid mass transit like trains, self drive fleet managed electric cars could make that possible even in rural areas

  • Yeah they used to have people whose whole job was to put documents in the file system, literally open a draw and put in a typed document. Computer was once a job title, literally just doing basic math all day like adding up columns of numbers. Factories used to be full of machinists who turned dials to set numbers in a sequence and repeated it all day...

The job market has done nothing but change and evolve, I don't see why people suddenly want it to stop

  • I spend all my time in the comments, there were annoying pigpooping GIFs and some trash comments but also some well reasoned and interesting comments from perspectives not often expressed in popular media. It's not like the comment sections never had trash comments and nonsence before.

  • But what is purpose? Video games serve no purpose, flavoured drinks serve no purpose, pets serve no purpose... Unless entertainment and distraction is a purpose, in which case fidget spinners have a purpose too.

  • I'm convinced theres a troll game going on to make the dumbest aita post, last time I went in to check my messages I saw one with a guy asking if he was the asshole because he yelled at his daughter for missing her recently dead mother

  • No a third of posts were people complaining they saw someone that might have been a tankie and demanding to live in a neo lib echochamber, I barely saw any actual tankie talking points

  • Building that amount of steel infrastructure really isn't as easy as you trainbrain idealists seem to think, we really shouldn't destroy the planets climate just to make a huge grid of expensive to maintain tracks when there are far better options - such as fleet managed self driving cars.

If course trains are great for medium length journeys on high volume routes, commuting for example but they're not a one size fits all solution

  • The levels of exaggeration about kiwifarms is getting a bit much, of course everyone uses emotive language but this is just getting wild.

How many websites do you think should be blocked, all the ones that are as bad or worse than kiwifarms? Because there are a lot, so you want sweeping measures to restrict the internet and you don't see that having any problems or negative affects?

  • You do realise the trans communities will be affected by this too? This isn't some magic wand that only the good guys can use, republicans will be using it to ban LGBT information and support networks as soon as they can, they'll wave that think of the children flag and it'll be too late.

  • It's never the time to be radical, we must always put the rich first no matter what. Helping the majority of the nation live decent lives is something that will just have to wait until we're all dead and buried, it really is the only way, all the billionaire owned media agrees.

  • I'll have to check him out, thanks.

Ambiguous amphibian has some great narrative videos, mostly things like rimworld challenges or the Sims. Sonny Evans is great for GTA and red dead stories.

I also really enjoy manly badass hero, his videos are often just straight playthrough of indy horror games with him narrating and adding comments, he's got the perfect voice for it and really engages with the game well

  • I watch a lot of gaming YouTubers and very rarely play games, I find the content really enjoyable as background while I'm coding or doing something on the computer. They're great because it's interesting enough to keep my brain active but also it doesn't matter if I miss a bit because I'm focusing.

I don't watch the kind that say questionable things tho

It's actually amazing how creative and funny a lot of them are.
