Apparently spreading news about an homophobic attack is considered islamophobic

Yeah it was huge in the art world, all the art magazines had articles about how it was the next big thing and how to mint your own nfts - which of course all turned out to be 'pay my buddy $200 and we'll turn your jpg into an nft!' which was a scam within a scam.
Artists generally aren't tech minded and honestly often pretty surface level in their understanding of things because that's where their focus is, they're looking at the visual not the mechanical. There's nothing wrong in that because life needs a wide range of people.
No because it would exclude all the interesting people, I'd much rather donate to keep a door open for all.
Every safety system makes it more expensive to run and they're already not profitable, do you really think they'll just keep throwing money into it without cutting corners? One little economic downturn and we start getting problems...
Why even risk it when we could have far better systems from the start? Nuclear is nice in science fiction but when you actually have to plug the numbers into the real world it doesn't look good at all, especially not compared to wind, solar and tidal
Except that clearly isn't true, if nuclear was a viable solution then we'd be building power plants but we're not because they make no sense economically or practically.
Look at all the plants in France losing more money every time they have another problem, shutting down in the summer because the rivers get low... Oh someone said the word terror attack let's spend a whole boat load of euros on security because they're such a massive and vulnerable target...
They keep saying the new nuclear will be great and we just need ten more years of oil and gas plus a billion in research and development grants then it'll do everything they promised a decade ago.
For a lot of people it seems to have turned into a sports team tribalism. They feel like they're supposed to support nuclear because it's science which kinda overlooks that PV is far cooler science, we need to look at reality and see we can have renewables now or the hope for a decent micellar ten or twenty years down the line, maybe.
That's a taking point that wasn't very true in the 70s and certainly isn't close to true now, there are endless methods of balancing a renewables grid for constant power involving endless options for continuous generation methods (solar thermal especially) or battery storage (chemical, gravity, etc) and load balancing using at-peek tied industry (especially e-fuel manufacture)
There's also a lot of stuff like tidal generation which is hugely promising and drastically underfunded, certainly compared to nuclear.
Just saying anyone who disagrees with you is a shill is the absolute most pathetic argument, it's what conspiracy loons do.
No one is saying use coal or gas that's a red herring all the nuclear proponents love to try and throw in there, nuclear is hugely expensive and very slow to build with lots of complex supply chain, waste management issues, and security issues where as renewables are able to be installed far faster, cheaper and safer.
It's either waste huge sums on building nuclear reactors while we continue to burn gas and oil for the ten to twenty years it takes to get a reactor online OR invest in renewables and get off fossil fuels quicker, cheaper and safer.
Ha ha ok sure if that's what you went to pretend
The problem is studies have demonstrated it's counterproductive both in the popular debate and at driving policy, it can actually set back the green movement.
Just because you agree with their idealism doesn't mean you need to agree with their behaviour, if I burn tires to get awareness for climate change that isn't something a sensible person supports
Beside the UK obviously and Ukraine, is there anyone else who would have? Putin is nuts but why would he blow up a pipeline he owns?
Also fun fact that's pertinent to this thread, the attack resulted in the largest release of methane in human history.
What if that gas allows everyone in the room to function and when it stops they all either die or fight for the limited alternatives, that fight releases far more gas than would have been released over the next five hours and kills all the people working on opening the window and making alternatives who would have been finished with in the hour?
Your metaphor only works because it misses out all the important bits.
The problem is millions die, government's are no longer able to govern and popularist war lords gain power in the chaos which results in huge conflicts that cause far more ecological damage without any measures or efforts to remedy them - we still get clomate change but probably sooner and worse.
Also let me ask the people here with children who among you would let your child freeze to death and who would chop down a tree to burn? The ecological damage done by a civilization collapse would be intense, we're too close to the edge to risk that - maybe if it'd fallen at the start of the Industrial revolution but how long would it have been until that technology comes back and we're right where we are?
We need to change society and evolve new technology, the later is actually doing really well with many giant leaps for climate friendly technologies and infrastructure but society is proving to be very resistant, people aren't going to create a new greener world if they get angry at the very idea of being told to reduce, reuse, recycle.
That's because no one pays attention to the huge developments in infrastructure or the amazing new technologies coming to market - e fuels like sequestered carbon jet fuel made from excess renewable power, and no it's not a science fiction dream it's happening now. Of course we should have more funding for these things but they are happening.
A huge part of that problem is that people resist even the slightest positive change, paper straws are fine but I bet there are people who like this post who also liked posts complaining about them - if we stopped organized sports and spent that half a trillion on transitioning local infrastructure or establishing carbon sequestration systems with productive use of captured carbon (e.g. building materials that get landfilled at eol) we could move much faster, but no one will give up a single football game to save the planet they'd rather bomb something and feel like a hero
Am I the only person who remembers how we already decided that some jokes are very dangerous? You get some impressionable twenty something thinking everyone is serious...
Yeah it's scary that people don't seem to understand that this would lead to billions dead which would cause chaos and resources wars that totally doom the planet.
We need infrastructure to transition, we need technological innovations and cultural stability
I used to have the irq of my sound blaster 16 memorised because you need to put it in for every game.
That makes a lot of sense especially if they're essentially loitering munitions, just need a bunker full of operators and you can stick a whole cloud of them in the sky so once an operator has exploded one drone there's another just coming into range of the battlefield...
Plus you could probably make so many cardboard drones that just flying then randomly over Russian controlled ground will draw fire from air defense and waste ammo, they should make a super simple one that just flies in the direction of the Kremlin until it gets shot down, could cut out most the electronics and if they're released from a mothership already high up then the motor could be super simple too.
War really has changed a lot, and the scary thing is it's only going to keep changing

Not the Reddit thing the china thing, it's nonsence. The actual reality of it is nothing at all like described above

Yeah but we fit in here because the communities that already exist suit us, half of all is Linux memes and most the rest is tech news - pretty much what my Reddit was, most people won't have that
It's growing and developing so I think we'll keep bleeding off Reddit users and establishing a broader community

I have several posts in Reddit communities about Lemmy and they're still all up
In India both Hindu and Sikh community's have avid followers who've done homophobic attacks, they don't get as much attention because of all the other violence they do such as against women
