  • I think we just need to make more content. I feel we really under estimate memes and jokes as a way to get them to see how fucked things are. Its such a stupid idea but being able to quickly convey a message through a photo that can express an entire view point is really powerful. Nobody reads walls of text anymore. But the left seem to think we all need to win arguments online or its all pointless.

Seeing the internet flooded with artists drawing ICE patrols as Brown shirts and Trump as a devil will do more in a day then any leftist showing up to any protest.

  • This is why I say these articles are so similar to how right wing media covers issues about immigrants.

There's some weird media push to convince the left to hate AI. Think of all the headlines for these issues. There are so many similarities. They're taking jobs. They are a threat to our way of life. The headlines talk about how they will sexual assault your wife, your children, you. Threats to the environment. There's articles like this where they take something known as twist it to make it sound nefarious to keep the story alive and avoid decay of interest.

Then when they pass laws, we're all primed to accept them removing whatever it is that advantageous them and disadvantageous us.

  • That's true. But I think we're closer than ever to that break. The instinct of people on the left is to always rub a dogs nose in shit after it craps on the carpet. But we all know there's better ways.

If people on the left create some bridges here and create awareness this could shift perspectives. There are lots of people on the right and left who will never be swayed on anything. But there's a lot of people who can be. Especially over this stuff.

It gets harder and harder for trumpets to support him and this could be a bridge to far. So many right wing people's core fear is Government doing this very thing. This might supersede their trump honeymoon

  • Not really. The military is a lot more diverse than you probably realize. It's a big melting pot. So many stories of rural Americans raised in racist environments joining the military and being exposed to all kinds of people and realizing they grew up kind of fucked up.

Contrary to what the stereotype is. A lot of military people are pretty wise and worldly. Seeing different cultures and having to deal with the fallout of failed states. It's not like they're progressives or even Lefty's. But they're not MAGA or right either.

This is why they've been firing lots of officers as well. If nobody is aware, the trump government has been removing many many senior leadership in the military.

I think the move right now by the left is to build bridges for people on the right who have spent their life fearing this type of action. Need to leave open the possibility that there are people on the right who understand this isn't good. Obviously there's the trump zealots. But I bet there's a group of right wingers whose fear of government over reach supersedes support for Trump. Groups like the heritage foundation will increase not activity to suppress that mentally among them. But I think we'll start seeing them speak up if we listen.

  • AI has been the most promising thing out to come out of the internet. It's a new frontier. Like any new frontier there is a lot of propaganda to convince us all to take our eyes off it. The exact same happened with the Internet in the early days.

  • I doubt this "critical thinking" statement more and more everyday.

I think we're exactly the same. Both sides believe they are critical thinkers. Difference is the right for whatever reason has more Victories. If we were actually critical thinkers, we'd figure out why and adapt. Instead, we seem to be losing faster and faster because we are not learning anything. We're just doing the same shit every day and failing.

Critically thinking involves being critical of ourselves. That's something I think we actually don't do.

  • Exactly, and it's not like there needs to be a weekly stand up for progressive leftist.

We just need to be aware we're sleeping at the wheel and that needs to stop. We're passively watching it all not realizing we're supposed to be participating

  • I'm over here challenging coworkers to actually talk about their beliefs and having confrontations

Got someone to remove their anti-gay cover photo a few days ago and think about their messaging.

I was there with you until I realized how gross this approach is. You can't force people to anything, especially assholes. There's a better approach that is proven to work. You need to shape the culture around people and they'll figure it out.

You shape culture by searching for content and resharing it. Find podcasts like The Majority Report and subscribe. Download GIMP and make your own memes calling out the absurdity and hypocrisy on the right. Make T-shirts. Stickers. Anything. There are endless ways to push back. But trying to win hearts and minds one conversation at a time? That’s not how influence works anymore.

Think about it: protesting today feels like performance art from a past era. We're supposedly "raising awareness" by standing in public, holding cardboard, chanting slogans, then packing up and going home. That’s it?

The internet is right there. Think how things would be if every person at a protest could instead be creating content from their couch. Not just commenting under a post on r/politic, actually running a meme page on Facebook, Reddit, or Lemmy. Posting weekly. Clipping moments from creators like Sam Seder, AOC, or Jon Stewart people who already deliver killer sound bites and pushing those moments out into the algorithm. They’re not making that content for us to passively watch. We should spread it and amplify it.

It’s wild that the left still treats raising awareness like it’s 1965. Holding signs on a street corner while ignoring the very platforms where public opinion is actually shaped every day, every hour. The right is flooding the zone with money, bots, influencers. And we're burning gas to go chant in a park for eight hours and call it a strategy. If we all think they're using bots to spread their views online, we should be drowningtheir efforts. It costs them money to counter our messages so wouldn't a winning strategy be to make them spend more?? Every message they push out should be buried by ours. Like in the Untouchables, the Chicago Way.

We could counter them for free if even a fraction of us got serious about creating and sharing content. From home. With your family in the next room before dinner.

I saw this right after I posted this comment. Like this stuff is awesome. We need more of this

Also a clip like this from within the last 24 hrs. Great stuff like this is created everyday. But at least in my mind is not getting the spread it should given how many people want things to change.

  • I guess it's like fucking. This is foreplay. It's important. Don't try to rush things. Don't just rush in, fart on them a bit.

Don't over think the power of just teasing these fucking clowns. You're not going to get action anytime soon. Do what you can.
