  • I was going to say I've already seen a surge in Lemmy moderators copying Reddit moderation.

I wonder if there's a way to tighten up moderation. Like let the mods pull their bullshit. But have it up for review by the subscribers who can vote monthly to remove them and permanently ban those mods from the community.

Like how Reddit use to have it so you could access the comments after they were removed. So people don't necessarily have to view them but they would be available for anyone who wanted to know what was removed.

Oh oh oh what if moderation was only allowed for a certain amount of time. That time ticks down but the community can vote more time. But that time always runs out.

Just thinking of ways to prevent like Marvel PR teams from taking over and turning places into absolute fucking hellscapes of "what is your favorite super hero costume" posts 4 times a month.

    Dec 14.

    It was a Monday.

Snow hadn't fallen yet but the cold was always familiar by then.

I had just started watching The Price Is Right.

I stopped the microwave at 00:00.

It was just me, my pastel blue plastic plate warmed by the cut up hot dog resting on top and Bob.

    Bob called another contestant down.

I don't remember what the showcase was that day, but still, it's a day I'll never forget.

  • I just saw another video of Theo Von clearly struggling with his support of Trump. I’ve seen so many others in that same position. On one hand, yeah, it’s easy to call them idiots for not seeing it sooner. But on the other, I get it. You go from being a comedian to suddenly part of this powerful inner circle, and that kind of validation is intoxicating, especially for someone with addiction issues who’s always chasing a high.

What frustrates me is how we, especially on the left, tend to fumble these moments. Instead of recognizing that some of these people might be waking up, we rush to humiliate them. We waste the opportunity to build something better just so we can rub their faces in it and get our own little high.

That’s something that really pisses me off about the left: the way we seize the worst possible opportunities and completely ignore the critical ones. Right now, yeah, some MAGA influencers are doubling down. But others? They're starting to crack. And instead of isolating them even more, maybe we should be thinking about how to help them speak about their shift in perspective.

  • No no no you guys need to go protest again. This time make your signs funnier and maybe the news will say it's the biggest single day protest again. It's like how we fixed climate change by throwing soup at famous art. This stuff works every time. We have the power. Guys do it or you're a fucking Nazi

  • My favorite part about this is that I often argue that we could do a lot of good if we all just shit posted more online politically. Like figured out some good ass fuck trump shit posts. It would be more effective than any protest. Yet these people are like "no can't do that man people can't organize like that without huge bot armies"

Meanwhile they all get hard ons for moth bean Sheeran. Like fuck, drives me crazy.

  • Right the people saying they'll punch a Nazi are also people who have run to Lemmy as their sole social media because they don't enjoy being in conflict all the time with other people who disagree with them.

The people that go nazi I have often are usually people who thrive in conflict. It's like a weird attention seeking thrill thing.

  • I see lots of people on the left type "punch a Nazi" online but then never learn to throw a punch or lift any weights and shit on self defense culture like martial artists or even gun ownership. Punching people is not something you just do. Especially to people with Nazi mentality who probably gone their whole lives feeling anti social and waiting for a leftist to engage them.

Not saying this to discourage but to say go learn to punch Nazis and embrace being a fucking Nazi punching bear of a person

  • It takes a tremendous amount of energy to run our own OS. That energy needs to come from somewhere. We're driven to convert other living things into that energy. You can't just shrink that down and expect to produce the same results. It's like saying why can't I build a little tiny generator that can power my Bitcoin mining farm. There's things that come with scale and we're kind of in a sweet part I think. Kind of like how earth is in a sweet part of the solar system. Nature sorted us out to be what is needed to do things we do.

  • Then you're in a bubble. One of the most frustrating things about the right currently is they have a large network that is very good at sharing information. They have a much tighter grip of current events than anyone I've seen on the left. The left are miles behind on any current events. Whenever something is happening, I've been heading over to right wing spaces because as much as I hate it, they tend to know things much faster and in more detail then the left wing spaces.

Just look at Lemmy here. Most information is a post and then 100 comments of talking about how upset we all are and gob smacked. But there is no further insight.

When I go to right wing spaces, it is similar but i do get extra information like background details about who individuals were or what led to an event that isn't in an article. It comes with tons of bullshit but I trust I know ways to verify information enough to spot the bullshit.
