  • Exactly. That firing does the harm they were trying to prevent.

  • It's sad that a teacher could possibly have no private life. It's even more questionable how the account was "found". I see no one is mentioned as having found it and reported it.

I think it was foolish of the district to fire her; if no student knew about it. The article also neglects to mention parental outrage; so it would seem that not even a parent discovered this either.

If all of this was done explicitly outside of the school, off grounds, and not mentioned ever; it makes no sense other than a few adults finding it awkward.

  • ...What? In what place was HCl- ever mentioned?

    Your reply is nonsensical.

  • Food is Anarchy dude, Live by Your Own Rules!

  • The act of paying for something directly violates user privacy too. Modern businesses use Trust-based National Currency. They are REQUIRED to do so.

Thank you modern anti-money-laundering laws. /s

The best privacy defense is "Nobody Knows Who". Any company that profits explicitly from asking "Who?" is a problem.

The best software asks "Who?" as little as reasonably possible. Companies in general would profit significantly more from software as a service if they did not have to bear the burden of answering "Who?" every time the government asks, or bear the fears of being tied up in legal proceedings for ages for simply upholding the right of privacy for another.

Facebook and it's other related social networks is horrendous software. It's company is actively exploiting "Who?". Advertisements are a largely unwanted fact of life and people are beginning to draw lines and demand 'moderation of Advertisement placement, levels and density' as well as 'more privacy respecting' businesses and services.

TL;DR: If your business model is to invade people's privacy to sell advertising and you charge exorbitant prices to "respect my privacy" in any shape, form or manner; then you have no morals, ethics or scruples and you should fully expect to be censured and shunned by people who value those things in the companies they do business with.

  • I use Adguard because it's pretty reliable and solid.

I would love other options but I haven't found many that rival Adguard. I'm very picky about DNS because frequently services that I use can detect them and most free providers do nothing to alleviate blocking.

  • Maybe that's something you should remind your friend that steam does...this meme would help with that...

  • I would much rather shave, wear makeup, skirts and cute colorful tights and be called a female anyways.

But then again some would call that perspective out as being an outlier. :P

For the menfolk, and those who are male identifying, I do highly recommend kilts...and they do make some pretty neat ones including many pockets if needed.

  • This is not a thing I've ever heard in my lifetime online.

That said; it is wiser to go invisible. I wouldn't call it inconsiderate unless/until you've discussed that with your friend.

I guess it just depends on the relation between friends as to whether you should care or not if you're seen playing a Hentai Game.

For some people; especially people who might be public figures; yes, that would be massively questionable. For other people who only ever steam friend their buddies who also share similar game interests and tastes...it might not be such a huge deal.

That said it probably is a conversation one might have with that friend; especially if it bothers you.

However, I do think there are certain times I believe that Steam should just, by default, not share when you are playing certain titles with friends.

  • I wear cute and colorful tights but same effect!

  • At least if they're forced to stay clean and away from "Illegal" P.E.Ds; the DoD and Navy can learn from doctors what these and other top soldiers might medically actually NEED to stay on their feet.

I guarantee you a complex of the right vitamins do wonders; and so does understanding the limits of men and women so that you can ensure that you enlist enough clean, high performing men and women to the SEALs to get all of their operational jobs done.

An additional benefit is; if all the SEALs are taking the same "dope" and other nutritional supplements to aid in keeping their performance optimal once they're commissioned; then doctors and dieticians and many other folks can weigh in and provide a solid plan for safe dosages administered for every compound involved to each soldier.

Imagine... No more SEALs dying randomly of drug overdoses. Really; that's an outcome that Navy Command should honestly be highly prioritizing.

  • More major software developers should be doing this and porting everything to Linux as fast as they can. Microsoft is getting greedy these days; and pretty soon we will find ourselves in a world where too many users can't and won't afford Windows anymore.

  • Microsoft is stupid, someone high up is getting greedy or desperate.

Patching HWID is annoying and doesn't stop piracy. In fact it will break a lot of legacy systems in general; which is probably what they intended and why they are guilty of corporate greed in this case.

I hate Micro$hit but I am REQUIRED to use Windows by too many stupid fucking different idiots, apps, and games to count. Linux is still not there yet for me usability-wise; though it probably is still improving.

No; I will never accept that CLI is an acceptable end-user implementation; GUI is required; along with ease of use and the polish that comes with it. I don't mind CLI interfaces; but I do feel they're not user-friendly enough usually. They REQUIRE YOU to LEARN a few things to get used to them; which is the opposite of an intuitive interface.

NOTE: I am very FLOSS accepting when it meets my needs; but I will not hold back criticism. Do not try to shout me down. You will always be wrong. Windows is factually more user-friendly and application compatibility diverse than Linux.

I genuinely hope that Linux finds more ways to 100% match Windows functionally without forcing the user to compromise. We need to punish Microsoft for all these years of monopoly holding and reclaim computing more effectively.

  • as an expert1 I can affirm that singular usage of they/them is absolutely acceptable in polite conversation with people who may be non-binary or with people whom you don't wish to assume what gender they identify as.

1 - Why am I claiming I am an expert? I'm nonbinary and trans myself; and I moderated /r/genderqueer for a long time; so I do see trends.

  • No!

With anything owned by Meta; you will be required to verify your identity.

  • I might recommend using something like tape. Extra Strong Clear Tape.

You may also want to invest in a phone case; preferably an opaque and waterproof one that is difficult to remove.

There are apps available on F-Droid like PrivateLock which might help too; this will automate locking your phone if it's snatched from your hands suddenly.

Last thing I can say is to use a short screen timeout and a strong password to unlock the phone.

  • I think you'd be foolish not to do so. Make sure that you also abandon any software that collapses to UK legal pressure.

  • Hot take here; so PLEASE do not reply unless you're the OP.

Maybe you don't have to switch. At least not immediately. Ultimately someone will make a stink out of switching. Again!

MProto isn't the best cryptography around; but it does provide some implementation of some low level privacy. I wouldn't trust a credit card number to it; but it's not worthless. It is however heavily disliked by people who understand cryptography and value privacy. But Your friends don't care! That fact is irrelevant to them emotionally.

And this is where the problem starts...Your friends have gotten accustomed and attached too much to Telegram and it's many eye-candy features and smooth polish.

This is where you need to "Sour The Milk" and wean them off Telegram.

Perform your usual setup of a new group. Use Signal or Matrix (usually this will be though Element). Then Force anyone who decides to be stubborn on Telegram to use the "Secure Chat" feature on Telegram. At least then the stubborn holdouts won't be causing you excessive privacy issues.

Then lastly just transition to your new platform and pay exclusive attention to the new one and let people trickle in.

  • If you want to curtail political posting; it is REQUIRED that you approach the mods of the !memes community.

The other posters won't make that change for you; but you can block the garbage posters when they appear in your feed and it does help some.

I've managed to winnow down the shitposters of !memes and I only see new and decent posters of (reasonably good) memes that actually make me chuckle.

Also be the change. Downvote (or block if you can't) anyone posting shitty memes.
