I apologize that it's a song lyric, I understand this is a books sub, so delete if you must, but...I have a perfect one from a Simon and Garfunkel song, that hits right in the feels every time I hear it:

I too have established burnout as my new baseline.

I don't mind that date format much at all and I know it's ostensibly the universal standard. It makes more sense then day-month-year at any rate.

I'm with you on metric vs. standard units all day, it's downright embarrassing that we still haven't switched to metric...but Month, Day, Year makes far more sense. The numerical day of the month is pointless by itself, there are 12 of each number (except 29-31) every year so the number says nothing at all without the context. It makes no sense to start reciting a date with the least important and least descriptive bit of information. The month is the piece of information that gives the most detail on its own and cuts down on the number of words to say the date. Instead of "The 12th of May" we just say "May 12th" cutting two completely unnecessary words from British English. It also lets you know the season of the year right off the bat. If we ask when a movie, game, or book is coming out, "in March" is the best way to say it if you had to choose only one piece of data of the three. "This year/Next year" or "the 25th" give less info. We leave off the year if the future event is in the current year so that comes last naturally. As objectively as possible, we improved the date format.

I might be cynical af but I believe China is a market they can't ignore, but the UK, well...they can afford to send a message there. With some quick google-fu it looks like Apple sells more iPhones about every 8 days than it sells in the UK in a year. That's comparing 2023 numbers for China to 2019 numbers in the UK for the record, I'm too lazy to look past the first few links really, and doubt that math would change enough to ruin the point.

They also wouldn't pull out of the UK, they would likely just revert to SMS there in the messages app rather than give the UK a back door into their encryption.

Good thing I never fucking said that and would never agree with the statement. The point of the comic is that our lack of perspective taking and dehumanization of others enables terrible atrocities. That factor of dehumanizing propaganda exists on both sides but I'm not taking the comic so far as to equate us to the Nazis (again, not who we nuked in the first place) That's obviously a gross oversimplification.

You'd get more from the comic if you put Germany and Japan on the left. The mechanic of dehumanization oscillated out of control until we felt justified wiping out entire cities of Japanese. But if you're the one responsible for the atomic bomb, the atrocities of foreign soldiers would likely give you little peace as your invention vaporized kids in playgrounds...and babies in strollers and wombs...mothers who just wanted this stupid war to be over so their husband could come home and they could raise a family.

Next time, just ask a question before putting your dumbfuck words in someone else's mouth to justify calling them Nazi apologists.
