  • It's not the age itself at all, look at Bernie Sanders, still sharp and still popular. This comic seems pretty much about Diane Feinstein, and the knock isn't exactly their age, it's related to their age. They're grossly out of touch with regular Americans any more and we think the age is a factor. We want fresh blood, new eyes, more forward thinking than some of these career politician dinosaurs seem capable of anymore.

Every year a new batch of Ivy League Valedictorians and Rhode Scholars emerge and we're stuck with old folks running the show.

  • I'm sure you've noticed this before, but every convenience store in America sells addiction: Sugary candy/donuts/soda, diet soda, salty snacks, tobacco, gambling, caffeine, alcohol, energy drinks. I think the only thing nobody's addicted to in a convenience store is...beef jerky. But hey, to each their own, snap into that Slim Jim if you crave it.

Literally everything they sell though is someone's serious addiction. Hell, you could even frame gasoline as an addiction since most of us rely on it completely to get to work.

  • What if it IS a search engine? Maybe there's a site out there that posts every question to a random fediverse sub!

Matter of fact, let's make one. We'll just use scripts to post every question to social media but program it to say the wrong thing first so that it gets instant results when everyone jumps on the "person" who was wrong. Brilliant!

  • I've verified throughout our fox network that there are no foxes in any henhouses at the moment. They've been instructed to take steps to ensure that no foxes end up in any henhouses accidentally going forward and the foxes tell me that they are truly sorry this time. Despite past reassurances of not being evil, they were in fact..evil. We are rolling out an internal audit system with the help of a 3rd party partner who owes us lots of stuff. We plan on letting the advocacy groups check out our henhouses as long as they agree to be bound by an NDA.

  • You're intentionally dumbing down the topic to make your point sound better. You're simply describing the binary, whether addiction could be present or not. There are so many more obvious factors to consider. Addiction rate of users, personal and social impacts of that addiction, intensity of addictive behaviors, frequency of use in addicts, target demographic, marketing etc.

There's a reason gambling has a minimum age requirement, and loot boxes are a way around that to make money by letting children gamble.

  • In counseling, we call those process addictions. Internet gaming, sexual addictions, gambling, shopping etc. are all process addictions. Psychological addiction isn't precise enough as any chemical addiction could have a strong psychological component as well, and almost always does because addictions create habits of use and habits are difficult to break. Also, for instance, we might have to ditch our drinking buddies when we have alcoholism because being around them triggers our urge to drink psychologically.

  • This is the same as Trump saying he was just challenging the results of the election.

Namely, nobody is trying to prosecute him for his legal challenges...and nobody is complaining that games are too entertaining. They are bold strawman arguments that most people see through immediately. "Complete bullshit" is now a common argumentative tactic.

  • The sad part is while this validates everything sane people have been saying about January 6th, Trump and his minions will just say this proves that the system is broken because they're going after a good man who was just doing his job etc.

When you have zero morals, the bullshit writes itself.

  • I think we need to separate giving a fuck from morally wrong. I know that even stealing from Walmart is morally wrong because two wrongs don't make a right as the old saying goes, but more importantly, by living in this society and reaping its benefits, we agree to abide by its rules too. Justification is way too easy of an exercise to have any bearing on what's acceptable.

That being said...I also don't even give a fraction of a fuck about someone stealing from Walmart.

We can admit that something is wrong without caring if it's enforced or not. Kind of like solo drivers being in the carpool lane. Wrong? Yes. Care? Not a chance. They've made their own risk/reward calculations in each case.

  • There was a kid I worked with who was super into spiders and would want to watch spider videos on all of our breaks...

There were some things I absolutely did not need to know, let alone see.
