  • my job is a prime example. having a degree was a requirement but I don't use anything I learnt and can't even remember anything at this point. I just learnt on the job. the only benefit might be having a degree might make you quicker to train and encourage a degree of critical thinking and innovation, but its not like you need a degree for that stuff either

  • KSR did something similar in 2312 where multiple small asteroids were programmed to impact at the same point same time which had the effect of a larger impact thanks to kinetics but undetectable due to being small objects of various origins that would have looked random even if detected

  • that was the one with drone swarm attacks was it? feels very prophetic

I think it was 2312 where they had multiple asteroids set on distinct trajectories to all meet a target at the exact same moment to produce undetectable large impacts as well from memory

  • even in countries that actually pay their staff right, there's no way those base prices don't cover the cost of food, staff and overheads.

then they have the gall to charge a "service charge" to pay the staff.

THEN they have the gall to imply you still need to tip

    fuck that to hell

  • that is the case in Australia, courts ruled only actual loss can be pursued (cost of a DVD basically) which made it uneconomical for IP holders to sue individuals. they still messa round the edges and tried to get the government to ban access to pirate sites (easy to bypass)
