Boiling point of water varies based on atmospheric pressure, water boils at a lower temperature high up in the mountains, for example, which could be why the estimated human body temperature is set as a standard, because it is consistent to reproduce as long as there are people around.
The freezing point of water is not affected by atmospheric pressure, however, it is affected by dissolved material in the water. Using a saturate solution of a salt would establish that consistency as well as lower the freezing point to create a bigger temperature range.
Fahrenheit was not an entirely arbitrary choice: it was defined based on two points of reference that could be measured at the time: the freezing temperature of an ammonium chloride brine is used as 0, and the best estimate for the average human body temperature is set at 96.
Over time, as the freezing point and boiling point of water at sea level atmospheric pressure proves to be more accurate reference points, the Fahrenheit scale was adjusted to provide exact conversion to Celsius.
The best purchase I've made this year has to be the tickets for the "Barbie" movie on opening day July 21st. As I watched the movie in theater (the best way to watch a movie), I was literally moved to tears by the performance of the lead actress, whom I might add, deserves an Oscar this year.
Fellow lemmings, I, for one, will definitely be buying "Barbie" on Blu-ray to have it in my collection.
Especially when your identity on Signal is STILL only tied to a phone number, instead of a username, and there is nothing less private than actually giving out your real phone number.
I did do my movie promo here in July before the SAG-AFTRA strike started. (it's all on my lemmy.world account) Then the movie did amazingly well at the box office, I thought maybe I found the hidden secret to social media success, so now I wanted to see if I can shitpost my way into finally getting an Oscar this year.
Do you actually use Arch(why?)?
A few years ago, I thought it would be funny if I learned how to use Linux and tell people that "I use Arch by the way" like the meme, so I spend a couple of hours and installed Arch an old laptop (it's really not that hard, you just follow the directions on the wiki!), then nobody got the joke, so now I have this Arch laptop to play around with and type sudo pacman -Syu in occasionally.
I usually really like seeing the little number pop up when I get a response on my comment, instead of dreading it's someone trying to pick an internet fight. People are nice here. (Usually)
But it needs more original content, that's how Lemmy and the entire fediverse can grow.
Looks like I completely dissappeared into the role of "average Lemmy user" here.
That's called acting.
