  • My god guys it was terrible, my Dad sent me to the store for a bucket of steam, and the cashier laughed at me.

How was I supposed to know steam didn't come in pre-packaged buckets? Nobody ever explained the particulars of steam packaging!

Literally nothing worse could ever happen to me. Now I'll be in therapy for years.

  • Just someone with life experience 🤷‍♂️

And honestly I'm just amazed at how thin skinned people are that they're labeling a harmless joke as traumatizing. If you really need everything in life explained to you, expect to not get very far.

  • Yeah. In this case you'd need to know that paint is a liquid, and comes in a can. Is it logical that paint is going to come in stripes? How would that be applied to a brush? How would that be applied to a wall?

If you take 2 seconds to think you realize this is a nonsensical request.

If you think everything in this world needs to be explained to you, you aren't going to get very far. Also an important lesson to learn.

Learning to use a software interface, or the intricacies of how a thing works is not necessarily dependant on critical thinking. Understanding that a light bulb is not powered by blinker fluid, or that a liquid paint could not possibly be sold and applied to a wall in stripes is dependent on critical thinking.

  • It's critical thinking. In life, it's not always about knowing but about understanding.

It's also about having thick skin and the ability to take a joke. Nobody is hurt, it is funny when you think about it, and it will encourage you to think about things in the future.

I do not need to know turn signals don't require blinker fluid. Because it's a fuckin light bulb.

The people in this comments section are acting like this is somehow traumatic. How fucking sheltered are you people?

  • The cost is too high? Seriously?

You're not paying anything for the service. You have no concept of what their costs are. You're mildly inconvenienced by some annoying and slightly obtrusive ads.

It's a business, not a charity. And they owe you nothing.

  • Sponsored search placements haven't really changed. Most ads are run through AdWords which are found across the web and on mobile apps. Even this post is about ads run within videos. Thus unrelated to search.

  • And touch screens were in devices other than smart phones before smart phones came along.

So again, father of the touchscreen, sure. But he did not make smartphones happen. He has nothing to do with 99% of the technology in smartphones.

  • Yeah, completely agree. But this is also Lemmy. The majority of users are either a communist or almost a communist. And usually have a pretty bad understanding of what that even entails. Generally they just want everything to be free or paid for by someone else.

  • It's completely accurate. Thos is crazy, I know, but you can have a shit ton of things but only 3 of one specific thing.

Sometimes sellers get more inventory in when stock is low. Sometimes they don't. Amazon is just letting you know how many units they have on hand. Actually, they even let you buy units that are still on their way to the Amazon warehouse.

  • My security deposit was returned to me with interest added.

I was told not to paint anything because they do that whenever someone leaves as standard practice.

    Sometimes apartments aren't bad.

  • A friend of mine got fucked by a local pizza place after the waitress changed a tip by adding a comma and a few zeros.

Pizza place refused to refund, credit card company wouldn't cancel the transaction because it was too large. We had to start a social media campaign to shame the place into refunding him. They turned a $15 tip into a $1,500 tip.

So I definitely appreciate stuff like this

  • Likely not, no. Novo Nordisk spent $5 Billion on R&D in a year as a company. I can't find consistent numbers on advertising costs, but that looks to be somewhere around $100-200 million over the last 12 months, for this product specifically. The total annual compensation of the entire executive team at Novo Nordisk is about $46 million USD.

  • My brother in Christ, why is sucrose bad for your liver? Because it is metabolized into glucose and... Fructose

The metabolism of sucrose into glucose and fructose happens in the small intestines. Fructose enters the bloodstream and is metabolized by the liver.

  • What kind of sugar? High fructose corn syrup or sugar?

HFCS is metabolized in the liver making it far more damaging to the body. And soda that uses real sugar typically has a lower sugar content. Soda with real sugar also imparts a feeling of fullness, typically resulting in people drinking less.
