  • This is 100% true but there also aren't really any reliable alternatives for long-term firmware support. It's either private companies offering 2-4 years or a somewhat open alternative whose longevity as a company and support capabilities (dev support) are unproven.

I'd say it mostly comes down to whether you want a phone you can tinker with and that supports a slightly better approach or something with the benefits of mainstream adoption and support from ROMs like GrapheneOS.

  • Sounds like the PRC just need more robust civil society organizations!

  • They just pay a vendor for it and don't care about the things you do.

  • You basically have to research the exact model you're interested in and how it works on specific distributions. Also a good idea to check hardware compatibility in the kernel you'd be using.

  • Its a 47 second video and Trudeau pivots to it right after talking about Jewish people being important which he pivoted to after saying that the speaker already apologized.

A non-apology, a hand-wave to Jewish people, and then declaration that we all need to oppose Russian disinformation.

Doesn't seem misquoted or misleading to me.

  • %.2f% means it will format to two decimal places max. So 5.877 will format as 5.88 and 1 will format as 1.00.

  • Siri, please show me the dumbest thing you've ever seen

  • A country that gladly accepted Nazis is clearly one where the rulers weren't particularly concerned about it - these are their kids and grandkids, still supporting Nazis, and still because of anticommunist thinking. This is the same country that continues to occupy land stolen from the indigenous and constantly fails to reckon with even acknowledging it, let alone stop steamrolling indigenous land, let alone implement restorative justice.

Russia bad is part of that anticommunist legacy. Look how little effort it took to dehumanize Russians from the Anglo perspective, look how they continue to rely on the same trope of the Asiatic hordes that will conquer everything in their path - if we let them.

  • lol the way you make pad thai spicy is with ground chili flakes on the side. Then you add as much as you want.

  • You must organize with like-minded people, which is to say, anti-imperialists, to undermine the war machine. You will not find these people among the major political parties, both of which are imperialist.

Once you are with a group of people, you can strategize around what to do more specifically. Holding rallies, building your organization, creating or joining a like-minded coalition, direct actions, etc.

You can't do anything meaningful alone.

  • There's an even darker side to it than greedy business owners. They are also just cogs in the machine of capital, just as the oppressor class. They are subordinate to the mechanisms of capitalism itself, and are taking an extra dollop off the top, no doubt, but the greater share goes back into the machine whose purpose is to simply turn things into more things, always increasing in exchange value, regardless of what that thing is or how much it hurts people or what ridiculous redundancies are created or what countries it destroys.

The machine itself has to be destroyed, it's the engine that creates the monsters.

  • Thank you for your service

  • It's a good one. You can stuff cash in an envelope to pay for it if you want.

  • I've never used Temu and for all I know they're questionable, but this article is not itself very credible. It's heavy on uncited economic assertions, makes a hackneyed national security argument, and is actually very light on the technical security details. Plus it suggests nonsense like TikTok not requiring the android.permission.INTERNET permission, lol.

On their "About" page they gladly announce that they're a private company hired by big corps and finance bros so on, and they have an unexplained focus on China. I suspect they take money to do hit jobs.

I'd be interested to see a security comparison between, say, Temu, Amazon, and Facebook apps.

  • An excellent argument for building and protecting socialism in Latin America!

PS you should read up on how global financial coercion works. It's a liberal myth that a country can simply build autonomy without reckoning with their place in the world order. Countries in LatAm are placed in the global south by that order and when they try to step out of it and have autonomy, the US and the global north generally step in to screw them over.

This is not ancient history, either. Everyone has either lived through it or has parents that did. When Venezuela nationalized oil, i.e. acted on its autonomy over its own resources, it was hit with blanket sanctions, the full press propaganda effort, and repeated coup attempts. When Bolivia began building autonomy around its resources, including Lithium, it suffered a nearly successful coup attempt wherein the global north rapidly fell in line behind the Christian fascist coup government.

Now watch Argentina get continuously screwed by the global financial system that extracts their wealth and then forces them to change their societies in order to receive loans - societal changes that further impoverish the people and wreck their governmental and "civil society" institutions.
