  • I feel like it varies within groups of people. But other times, I swear people dress like in a Limp Bizkit video.

It’s weird because I remember the older kids dressing like that younger people today and by the time I got to high school it was peak mid-2000s, with bell bottoms, crop-tops, graphic tees with long sleeves underneath.

    It’s mostly cyclical.

  • I’ve seen in tech. But the great majority of those are either US or EU only. Outside of that, it’s pretty bleak.

  • Time wise, yes. But I engage more, instead of just lurk, because my comment won’t be buried under the sheer amount of comments. Also, the smaller communities have less activity at the moment, but it’s all good. I’m not reading as much bad content while navigating a slew of annoying crypto ads and sketchy ads for overpriced mindfulness retreats.

  • After it’s all done, you should totally stay!

PS: got my pink polo pressed and ready for tomorrow.

  • I think unlimited texting was a thing in the US since like early to mid 2000s. It was never the case down here (probably still isn’t, since nobody uses it).

In fact, by the time cell phones became ubiquitous down here, it was around the time smart phones were launching. So with regular SMS being expensive, everyone just started using WhatsApp. I think back in the day the app was $1.

It’s kind of fucked-up that Zuckerberg has so much power over people’s businesses, study groups, family communications, neighborhood watches, et al. He could put ads on WhatsApp tomorrow, and people will probably take it, because humans are stubborn and like familiarity in general. I could stop using it today, but I would not be able to participate in a lot of things in society.

You can see it now in Reddit and Twitter. They’ve been completely entshittified and people are still there. In fact, we got people on Lemmy wanting to brigade and participate in r/place and give engagement to that shit-sipper Spez, so he can use the metrics on his damn IPO.

  • Yeah, my bad. Mlem is bugging out and it seemed like it didn’t post it at all.

  • As someone from Latin America. FUCK!

It’s literally what everyone uses for business, family/friends groups. Don’t know if any country around here is an exception, but we started using it because greedy telecoms were charging so much money for SMS at the time. So, it was a great way to circumvent that.

Then Facebook bought it when it was already established, so it’s improbable that people will move away from it.

  • If you're into the Zelda lore, and like hack and slash. I'd recommend both Hyrule Warriors.

Definitive Edition you'll play with a lot of familiar characters, I absolutely love tearing through enemies using the Skull Kid or Young Link who transforms into the Fierce Diety and just obliterates everything in his Path.

Age of Calamity is in the era of BOTW and it's a bit more polished and if you liked the characters in that game, you'll love to play as them. Just parrying guardian lasers with Oborousa, Riju and Link is fun but challenging. And I absolutely love brining down a Lynel with Hetsu.

I'd also recommend Super Mario 3D World (includes Bowser's Fury). Lots of fun, but shorter levels and Bowser's Fury is kind of it's own open world.

My only regret with the Switch was not getting it earlier in the console's cycle. I've put so many hours into BOTW, TOKTK, both Hyrule Warriors, Mario Odyssey and Smash Bros.

  • I go there for a couple of smaller subreddits I still visit (barely starting out on Lemmy, tough). But a lot of content seems to be slowing down, like 2 day-old threads on the home tab (I only go on desktop with adblockers).

This is obviously anecdotal, and have no numbers to back it up. We'll have to see how it goes into the future. Reddit just keeps pissing off their core users time and time again.

  • I used to listen to a lot of heavy metal. Lots of mid-late 2000s era metal and old school stuff. By the time I had reached college, and a friend group with diverging tastes, I got into indie rock, hip-hop, electronica, reggae, post-rock, indie pop, etc.

My 14 year old self would’ve been disappointed. I really cut it down from my life. But I’ll still catch metal show and listen to it every once in a while. Or for workouts. Just not something as aggressive and angry that much.

  • This and Return of the King were my jam in middle school! I’d rather kick orc ladders in Helms Deep, or save Minas Tirith as Gimly than whatever the fuck that Gollum game was.

  • .... With another realistic-looking mount.

  • I got a prescription pad that says otherwise =p

  • So I can tell Margot Robbie that I got a wad of 100s.

It could totally not be her, though.

  • I’d say Velvet Revolver. With most of the Guns N’ Roses lineup without Axl and with Scott Weiland (RIP) on vocals, broke-ass, 9th grader me downloaded that whole album on dialup (my family couldn’t afford high-speed at the time). And boy in 2004 did I listen the shit out of that burnt CD. They later released Libertad in 07’. It was okay..

Afterwards, Weiland left and by the time he passed away, I had forgotten about them. So I went back and damn did Contraband still held up. It comes up in my mixes from time to time.

The other one was kind of cheesy. Does anyone remember Battle for Ozzfest? The MTV show around 04, 05ish? Well, the band that had won was A Dozen Furies. They were a metal-core type of band (product of the time). But I absolutely loved their music at the time. However, by 2006 they had disbanded.

But I think I like them more because a friend of mine, somehow knew one of the members from a forum that my friend ran, or something like that. Anyways, because of that he got Ozzfest tickets, which I had no money for at the time, and I had an absolute blast there. Drank my first beer under the table, my virgin ass made out with a girl, had a Marine tease me for not being able to do pull-ups, rocked out all day, and got burnt with a cigarette in a circle pit (still got the scar).

I did meet the guys at the meet n’ greet tents, got a random sampler CD autographed and they seemed all around cool dudes! So thanks A Dozen Furies, you guys indirectly made my poor ass have an absolutely awesome time that summer!

PS: I don’t really listen to metal that much anymore. Unless I’m working out or something. But I go back to those albums every once in a while.

  • I posted one yesterday on a major Subreddit. It did get a bit of hate. Couple of people signed up. Some of that hate seems to be bots, complaining that there’s no mobile app, and that it looks like old Reddit.

I’ll keep monitoring, to see if it gets shadow removed. I bet a lot of the major subreddits are running on skeleton crews, so they can’t get everything.
