Power corrupts people, even good ones.
Especially people with traumas are draw to positions of power, to compansate for their lack of control in early life.
You see this everywhere, but some examples:
Trump: abusive relationship with father
Elon musk: Bullied and nearly punched to death in school
I had this idea:
What if we criminalize extrem riches. It would deter people from endlessly accumulating wealth, if there is a legal limit.
It will affect only the 1%.
It will not be just towards them, but it is necessary.
I believe its not the people who are corrupt, it is the power they have and its incentivis that makes them corrupt.
Also, anyone who is currently extremely rich 💯 gained these amounts of riches through some form of exploitation (humanitarian or environmental). If you define exploitation as voilence inflicted, it would be more justified as well.
This tiny change might force capitalism into a different direction or change to something different all together.
Disclaimer: I am no expert. This is an idea and my personal opinion, please take it as such.
Just like with temperature, we only feel the relative difference. If the difference is sudden and strong heat, it feels extrem. Like a rockstar getting famous and playing on stage. After these changes subside we feel the stark difference between. the hangover, the withdrawal symptoms. everything feels cold after you spent some time in warm water.
Happiness is like that.
You can push yourself to a new high, but afterwards you feel the difference between the high and the normal.
like many said already its about having a good baseline.
If you push that baseline with drugs, everything normal will feel worse.
Don't worry the American conservative, is not comparable to German conservative.
Right in Europe is more comparable to center Left in the US political spectrum.
And Freiburg is more left than right for sure.
The most right political spectrum in Germany you will find in east Germany Saxony.
The secret is having free hydro energy supply, while 50% of their gdp is fossil exports.
But also includes making those smart decisions with these riches.
Norway should stop selling carbon tho.
Freiburg seems like a good choice i live there currently.
Nightlife is not crazy tho, just a few clubs and after midnight most is closed.
There are regular city festivals and lakes to swim nearby. Also its the city with the most sun in Germany ocer the year.
I can remember a time when elon musk was still saying smart things... like if there's even a 1% chance of it destroying the planet. We should do everything to avoid it.
What suprises me the most when watching news on this. You will see people in Rome getting interviewed in the middle of a plaza in the burning sun.
And there are many walking outside.
I would crawl into a cool cellar and only come out at night.
Well of course, in order to make profit you can never pay anyone more than what their work is worth.
A company that does, will simply lose to the "cheaper" competitor and go bankrupt.
The more you exploit the more profitable is your business.
Thanks for the good links and resources, I ll check it out. I am just starting in reading up on these topics. I do know about the project in chile though, it looked very promising before getting screwed by the US.
We sadly did not get to see more results.
When I was referring to planning being an issue, i just meant they didn't have super good computers and internet back in the day, and a planned economy would be way easier to manage with current technology. Not to undermine their achievements.
I believe, all socialist movements are flawed to some extent.
But history can teach us to be better. What we need is a new and improved version of socialism, that isn't anchored around authoritarianism or simply collapses when opposition is strong.
After all the previous socialism experiments did have some flaws that would not be an issue with current technology and social awerness. Like management and planning for example. Or supressing of freedom to believe. We don't need to fall into the same trap as china or russia.
